We Remember
GRIPP, Agnes
July 27, 1935 — November 21, 2022
Agnes Gripp passed away and went to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 21, 2022. Her death, at Three Links Manor, was a very peaceful one with her caregivers in attendance. We are particularly grateful for Wanda Sheath, her caregiver and companion, who took such loving care as well as all those at Three Links Manor who saw to her needs.
Agnes was 87 years old, having been born in Lashburn, Saskatchewan on July 27, 1935. Her parents Emil and Erna Gripp emigrated from Russia, escaping the revolution that changed their homeland. Agnes grew up on a farm in Saskatchewan along with her five siblings. She was the youngest of the children and was the last survivor in that family unit. The Gripp home was the home church for the farmers of that area with praise, worship and song being the daily and joyous routine. Emil and Erna Gripp retired to Kelowna in the 1960s.
All the Gripp siblings went to Bible School following their high school graduation. Most then went on to further their education. Agnes decided to become a nurse and midwife. She studied in Canada and in Europe before going to work as a nurse and missionary in Chad, Africa. She cherished her work there alongside her sister Hilma and husband Abe. Ag helped deliver and care for 100’s of babies as she served as a midwife, and loved the native people of Chad, whom she cared for with tender loving service. There are still fruit trees in bloom, in Africa, that she personally planted!
After serving 1 term of 4 years, Ag returned to Canada to care for her ailing parents. This care continued for two decades until her mother’s death at age 96. Several years later Agnes married Dr. Sam Steeves, who she loved dearly and cared for until his passing in 2011.
Agnes was a kind, caring, loving and happy Christian woman. She was an attendee at Trinity Baptist Church. She supported and was involved in Freedom’s Door Recovery Home. She also supported various Christian foreign ministries.
She will be missed by dozens of nieces and nephews who live across North America.
Her funeral service will be held at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, December 7, 2022. If you are unable to attend in person, please join the family online by Livestream (see below), a recording will be made available to view shortly thereafter.
