We Remember
GRONLUND, Donald
December 30, 1965 — May 29, 2023
On May 29, 2023, Don Gronlund passed away, at the age of 57 years, at home with his loving wife watching over him.
He is survived by Linda, his wife of 33 years; children Bryce Gronlund (Jayden Ryga) and Jade Gronlund; parents Fred and Carolyn Gronlund; siblings Michael Gronlund (Trevor Alleger) and Breana Harrison (Chris Boomer); parents-in-law Tony and Wendy Payne; sister-in-law Marie Payne (Rob Timms); brother-in-law Cameron Payne; and nieces and nephews Katie and Gus Timms, Elizabeth Payne, Ashley Carrell, Ethan and Rebecca Harrison.
Don was born in Chemainus, BC on December 30, 1965, and lived in various places Vancouver Island until he was 15. He loved the Island and had many happy adventures there. He always spoke fondly of the Island and going on the ferry. When his family moved to Fort St. John, BC in 1981, Don wasn’t too happy about that move but made the best of it and it was where he met his wife, Linda.
As a boy and an adult, Don was creative, a problem solver, extremely particular, and very determined. He loved spending time with his friends. He was a force of nature (larger than life), he would portray himself as super strong and tough, which he was, but also, he was goofy, kind-hearted and empathetic.
His family was the most important thing to him, his two children Bryce and Jade lit up his life. He also enjoyed his career as an electrician and then as an electrical instructor. He loved teaching and helping everyone around him learn about being an electrician but also about being a strong person. He had a Harley Davidson motorbike that he loved riding and would especially enjoy going on road trips with his biker buddies. His other interests included traveling (mostly to tropical places), weightlifting, playing and watching football, reading, and his pets (he loved animals). He made spending time with his family a priority. He was a very outgoing and entertaining person and had a smile that would light up a room. We are all going to miss him so much, but we also know that he has gone to a better place and we will continue to feel his spirit with us always.
Special thank you to his close friends Chris Froom and Scott Horovatin for their loving and loyal friendship throughout this difficult time.

Sending love and support to you all. I worked with Jade at Watson and remember how Jade’s face would light up when Don came to the school. She would run into his arms. It was so wonderful to watch the love of your family.

Don was the epitome of a family man. I will dearly miss our coffee shop conversations, and his kindness and acceptance of me into the family as his brother’s partner. He was a true role model; a faithful and truly honest man, and I join you in grieving his loss. He will forever be in my heart.
