We Remember

GRUNERT, Ronald Joseph
August 26, 1934 — January 7, 2024
Born in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, S/Sgt (retired) Ron Grunert passed away at the Central Okanagan Hospice House in Kelowna, British Columbia on January 7, 2024. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 64 years Annie; his children Cheryl, Craig (Heather), and Kim (Lewis); grandchildren Cody (Kelsey), Tia (Allison), Denika, Kelly, and Lewis; and great-granddaughter Harper.
A thirty-year veteran of the RCMP and recipient of the Commissioner’s Commendation for Bravery, he served in BC, Nunavut, NWT, and Alberta detachments. He retired in 1984 attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant as the NCO in Red Deer.
He retired to Westbank and eventually Kelowna, where he became an active member of the Balmoral Estates community — enjoying playing pool and cards, golfing, travelling, and the many activities that the group arranged. He made many lifelong friendships with the people there.
Special thank you to Dr. Buttterworth, the staff at KGH CICU and 2 West, and those at Hospice House for their care and compassion.
Family and friends will honour him, each in their own way. No formal service will be held.

Saddened to hear of Ron’s passing. Ron was the ops Sergeant St Paul detachment in the mid 70’s. A pleasure to work for and so many great memories. Sincere condolences to Annie and family.

Please accept my most sincere condolences on the passing of Uncle Ron. We lived beside the Grunert family on Hillcrest Road in Kelowna from 1960-1966. Attached is a photo of Ron and Ann with me and my parents shortly after the birth of Cheryl.
