We Remember
GULYAS, Irene
October 4, 1936 — April 10, 2022
Irene Gulyas passed away at Kelowna General Hospital on April 10, 2022, surrounded by her family, at the age of 85. Born in Romania, Irene moved to Hungary with her family shortly after. At age 19, she immigrated to Canada in 1957. Here, she met her husband Leslie Gulyas and resided in Brantford, Ontario. They had 3 children, Melinda “Lin”, Leslie, and Monica.
After many happy years, the family moved to Kelowna, BC in 1974, where they built a house in Casa Loma. Irene loved gardening and had the most beautiful rose gardens; she was known as the rose lady in the neighbourhood. She lived there till her husband, Leslie, passed away, and then she moved into town in 1998. She loved long hikes with her girlfriends and spending time with family. She was known for her chicken soup, porkolt, and nokedli. It was a tradition to serve the porkolt every Christmas – a family favourite. Years went by, and she met an old friend, Julius, who came to live with her. They had many happy years camping and spending time at the gym together.
Irene touched so many lives. She was especially proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be sorely missed by all.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Kelowna General Hospital 2-west for taking such good care of her. Also, many thanks to Bob, at Springfield Funeral Home, for all his help.
Irene is survived and lovingly remembered by her children Lin (Pete) and Leslie (Chris); grandchildren, Michael (Danielle), Caitlin (Mike), and Grant; and her great-grandchildren Ella and Myra. She goes to join her daughter, Monica, who predeceased her.
Family and friends will honour her, each in their own way. No formal service will be held.

So sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing Lin , Leslie and families. I have fond memories of her chicken noodle soup and the pastries she made with love… Cherish those memories .
