We Remember

HACKMAN, Patricia “Patti” Louise (née Dupont)

April 20, 1949 — February 4, 2025

Surrounded by the love of her family, Patti peacefully passed away at home in Lake Country, B.C. on February 4, 2025. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to many.

Patti was born on April 20, 1949, in Vancouver B.C. to Wilfrid and Marianne Dupont. She grew up in Penticton where she enjoyed a wonderful childhood, formed many friendships, and attended school. In 1966 the family relocated to North Vancouver where she completed her final two years of school, graduating from Carson Graham Secondary. She remained in the lower mainland area for many years after that, developing her career in the travel industry, raising her children, and only returning to the Okanagan in 2015.

Following graduation, she joined the reservations team at Japan Airlines in downtown Vancouver.  This was to be the job that launched a career in the travel and tourism industry that spanned many years. She became a specialist in group and convention travel, working as a consultant for Atlas, Uniglobe, and Goway Travel, as well as planning and executing many smaller, independent, group endeavours. She was detail-oriented, caring, and respectful of her clients’ needs.

Patti was an extrovert and known to readily engage with everyone she met, making friends easily, and demonstrating a genuine interest in the lives of all. Throughout her life she maintained contact with childhood friends, former colleagues, exchange students, and a vast community of lifelong friends and neighbours. She was caring, generous, and supportive of others. She enjoyed  socializing, travelling, gardening, cooking, and a good laugh. In recent years her grandchildren became the primary source of her joy as she conversed with them, shopped for them, hung-out with them, and watched them engage in their various activities. She was immensely proud of them.

For many years Patti battled a rare, incurable medical condition characterized by spasm-producing tumors. These glomus tumors recurred and multiplied, producing debilitating chronic pain and eventually robbing her of strength, energy, and the ability to engage in most of what she enjoyed. With courage, she tread a difficult path, but eventually she chose to end her life on her own terms.  We are grateful to the many people that assisted in her care over the years, especially Dr. Catherine  Bazilli, Dr. Dave Spouge, and Dr. Abdu Mutat.

Patti is pre-deceased by her parents Molly and Wilf Dupont, and her brother-in-law, Bob Regehr. She is survived by her children, Juli Spearing (Cory Jmaeff) and Sean (Sonia Packwood), her grandchildren Madison and Grayson Spearing, Hanalei Hackman, and step-granddaughters Mika and Kisa Jmaeff. She is also very missed by her sister Susan, her nieces and nephews, extended family, and a multitude of friends.

Patti is at peace now. We will cherish the memories forever.
