Join us in celebrating the Life of Don Hackwell. A celebration of Don’s Life, and a reception to follow, will be held on SATURDAY, MAY 27, 2023, at 1:00 PM, at SPRINGFIELD FUNERAL HOME (2020 Springfield Rd. Kelowna, BC). 

Let’s remember this amazing husband, father, son, brother, uncle, papa, great-grandpa and friend by sharing our happiest memories of him and the amazing things he did during his life.

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Donald “Don” Hackwell of Kelowna, BC, on February 26, 2023 at the age of 68.

Don was born on November 6, 1954 in Port Alberni, BC, to his parents Walter and Wilma Hackwell. He spent his early childhood growing up on Sproat Lake with his parents and two brothers, Bob and Cal.

In 1967, Don moved to Kelowna with his family, where he made many lifelong friends and enjoyed the remainder of his life. His passions included boating, swimming, biking, camping, quadding, fishing, skiing, travelling, and spending time in the great outdoors.

Don was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, papa, and friend. He treasured the time he spent with his family and friends and embraced every moment with them.

Don will be lovingly remembered and forever cherished by his wife Tami; mother Wilma; brothers, Bob (Pat) & Cal (Evie); children, Barb (Jared) and Christina (Cam); grandchildren, Kayli, Meghan, Amber, Brennen and Daniel; great-grandson, Zachary; nephews, Shane, Christopher, Jordan, Justin, Shaun, Brandon, Ian, and Blair; as well as numerous family members, friends, and colleagues. Don was predeceased by his father, Walter.

Don’s positive spirit was an inspiration to many, and he will be remembered fondly by the many lives he touched.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory or in honour of Don Hackwell may be made to the following charities: BC Children’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House BC & Yukon, BC Cancer Foundation, or to a charity of your choice.

    Don was an amazing man! Always had a beautiful smile, sense of humour and kind word. He gave his all to life, family and dear friends. Always helping those who needed him without question. He will be sorrowly missed by all that were lucky enough to have known him. Much love to all his family and friends, he will be watching over all of us. Till we see you again Don.

    Don was a wonderful man and I will miss seeing his beaming smile at Big White! Don always found the positive in situations where it was much easier to be pessimistic. I found Don to be friendly, hard working and always willing to tell a good ski story. Rest in peace, pal.

I only knew you for a short time compared to many of your friends but I feel like I’ve known you all my life. Thank you for your friendship!!!!
