We Remember
HADGRAFT, James “Jim” Stephen
September 16, 1968 — April 23, 2024
It is with profound sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Jim Hadgraft, quietly in his sleep, at Kelowna General Hospital. Jim is survived by his mother and best friend, Jean; his sister, Susan (Bob), of Vancouver; his brother, Rob (Harriet), of Greensboro, NC; together with 6 nieces and nephews; and 2 great-nieces and 1 great-nephew.
Jim will be missed by everyone he met. He was kind, caring, and always put others first. His generosity knew no bounds, nor did his DVD collection. For many years Jim lived independently in his own apartment. With the opening of Hadgraft Wilson Place, Jim found a new home.
Jim was exactly what Hadgraft Wilson Place was intended to be about – inclusion, acceptance, kindness, and selflessness. Putting others first because it’s the right thing to do. Whether it was holding the door open for people to enter the building, or carrying others’ groceries and parcels, Jim was there. Jim was extremely proud to have his family name on the building and to have called it home.
A special thank you to Charisse Daley, his friend, and Executive Director of Pathways Abilities Society. Thank you to all the Pathways staff who supported Jim, and to Sharesz Van Keith for her care and compassion.
We will miss Jim and his impact on all of us forever.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Ramada Hotel, 2170 Harvey Avenue, Kelowna, BC, on Saturday, May 18, 2024, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
For those who might consider a gift in Jim’s name, the family suggests Jim’s favourite charities: Pathways Abilities Society, or Mamas for Mamas.

I am very sorry to hear about Jim. I did not know him oeronsally. But I heard good things about Jim. Gone too soon and too young. Rest In Peace Jim
James was a dear neighbour. My 4 year old daughter and him became best buddies and he would always be quick to stop and make sure he played their routine game of peek a boo. From helping to carry groceries inside, to protecting parcels, to hanging out outside just to get fresh air and talk about Jesus. He was the kindest, most caring human and will be dearly missed.
Thank you for always thinking of others first. My most sincere condolences to his family and his many friends and companions. I will miss him dearly.
I got to have the privilege of living on the same floor as Jim. He was always there to hold the elevator or bring up my packages so they didn’t go missing. I hope you have a brand new tv where you are now, you deserve it!
We will always remember Jim as such a sweet soul. We didn’t know him personally but would often see him out walking in the neighborhood. He would always smile & say hello. He touched our hearts. Our sincere, deepest condolences to his family on such a profound loss.
Jim was always willing to help people and took a great pride in volunteering for Mama’s for Mama’s. Jim also often donate new clothing and treats to Mama’s for Mama’s and Pathways Abilities Society.
I have many memories with Jim. Jim was very good at the board game Rummikub. We would enjoy playing it and it sometimes took an hour for either of us to win. Jim was so serious about trying to beat me! Jim loved my stir fry. Jim would chop up vegetables and I would make one weeks amount of stir fry. We were a good cooking team!
Jim’s kindness and generosity will remain in our hearts and be passed onto the community. Jim has been and will be greatly missed.
To Sue and Bob: It is with great sadness that we heard about James and we send our sincere condolences to you and your family for your loss.
Jim and his endearing ways will be missed! Our sympathies go out to his entire family.
I only knew Jim for a short while but I could tell how special he was. He was so kind and welcoming to everyone and I know my son, who was living independently for the first time at Hadgrath Wilson Place, really appreciated Jim’s kindness and how he went out of his way to make sure everyone was okay. My condolences to his family and friends. He was a special human! The world needs more people like Jim. You will never be forgotten.
I met Jim at Pathways in 2005, when it was called KDSCL. Jim participated actively in the social recreation which I was in charge. Between 2005 and 2011, I keep lots of great memories of Jim, lots of pictures, his love for music, dj at karaoke evenings, his skills in setting up the karaoke equipement and fixing any technical problem, his love of singing, his kindness with friends and peers, generosity, he would have bring great ideas of activities, like picnics, WWE paperview at the movie theatre, movie night at his condo, billiards, Armstrong fair, boat rides on Okanagan Lake, etc. I was fortunate to accompany Jim in 2007 to a trip to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, which was lots of fun and discovery! My sincere condolences to his mom, Mrs Hadgraft, and family members. I’ll never forget Jim, enjoyed teasing him, after he would tease me back, enjoyed making him laugh. Peace to you Jim, bon voyage up in Heaven.
Your friend,
Christian Lafrance
