We Remember
HAGLUND, Magnus
—
1969 – 2026
It is with a heavy heart that I announce that my father, Magnus Haglund, passed away unexpectedly at age 56 on February 22, 2026, in Kelowna, British Columbia. He is survived by his wife, Eeva; daughter, Anna (Damon); his two siblings; and his mother.
Born in rural Finland in 1969, Magnus was the oldest of three siblings and a caring big brother. He was a headstrong child who grew into an adventurous adult who worked as an exploration geologist around the globe – from the Amazon rainforest to the frozen shores of Greenland.
With his wife and daughter, he moved to Kelowna in 2004 to build a life in Canada. In the vast natural landscape of Canada, he explored his love for hiking and birdwatching. After tasting the wines of the Okanagan Valley, Magnus became inspired to pursue multiple degrees in wine and received high honours.
He was best known for his vibrant personality and his masterful storytelling abilities, where he brought to life the countless adventures he had undertaken.
He will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. In honour of Magnus, please consider donating to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
With a heart full of love and gratitude for my father,
Anna Haglund

I was Magnus’s hairdresser for just over 14 years. I always looked forward to our appointments — hearing about his travels and the newest addition to his wine collection. I will truly miss our visits every four weeks.
Anna and Eava, I am so very sorry for your loss. Magnus was such an amazing husband, father, and person. Please know that I am thinking of you and sending my heartfelt condolences during this incredibly difficult time.
To Magnus’s Family and Northspan,
It is with a heavy heart that we at Aurora Geosciences, of Yellowknife, write this condolence. Magnus was a true professional with a personality and zest for life that not many could match. Our professional relationship with Northspan was about personalities and he will be sadly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with his Family and the Northspan Team. Gary, Dave, Corey and Chris.
I had the pleasure of working with Magnus in a professional capacity that morphed into a personal friendship. His great laugh and personality will be missed by all. Condolences from our family.
We met Magnus more than 25 years ago while working here in Finland, Luikonlahti. His joyful spirit, humor, and stories stayed with us through the years. When the family moved to Canada, we didn’t meet so often, but every conversation with him continued as effortlessly as if no time had passed.
We will carry Magnus’s memory with us, held in warmth and respect.
Our heartfelt condolences to Eeva and Anna — our thoughts are with you.
Petri, Tiina, Iida and Veera
My condolences to the Magnus’s family and his dearest friends, it shocked me to realize that I would not be seeing Magnus again. I first met Magnus at the PDAC conference in Toronto, where he and Louis invited me out for dinner after some of our other folks had worked a program with Northspan that year. I had no idea what to expect and it turned into one of the most memorable PDAC outings I’ve had. The conversation was great, the food was delicious, and the wine selection was top class, as Magnus and Louis turned out to know more about wine than anyone I’d ever met. Turns out Magnus knows a lot about a lot of things, and he was always willing to share his knowledge for no other benefit than to just do the right thing. Magnus was a big personality and an even better person, and the world is undoubtedly a poorer place without him in it. I am so very sorry for this loss.
Magnus and I met through the industry but every time I saw him it was a great personal experience. The times we shared a glass of wine and exchanged stories of work in the Arctic and in Finland will always stay with me. He was a legend and will be deeply missed.
The whole Cosigo family from Canada, Colombia and Brazil misses Magnus dearly.
A picture to let everyone know how we remember him.
