We Remember
HALL, Lois Nelda
August 16, 1927 — September 18, 2023
Lois Hall passed away very peacefully, with family by her side, in the early morning on Monday, September 18, 2023. Her whole family spent Sunday afternoon with her before she left to rest with her husband, Buster.
Lois was born in Ottawa, Ontario, and was raised in a very loving family. She was an only child but always had her mum, Kathleen; dad, Skipper; grandparents, Nain & Taid; Aunt Ellen; and cousin, Barbara, nearby.
As she grew up, Lois enjoyed knitting, sewing, dressing dolls, figure skating, and helping out at her mother’s bookkeeping business. After graduation, she worked at CIBC in various roles, transferring from the Ottawa branch to the Kelowna, BC branch in 1948. Once she met and married Buster, she had to move on – in those days, you couldn’t be pregnant and work in the Bank.
Lois and Buster lived in Okanagan Mission. While Buster drove and took care of the buses, Lois took care of the books. They raised 3 children together: Susan, George, and Ted. Once the children were old enough, Lois went to work as a Bookkeeper at Apex Finance Ltd, an affiliate of Bennetts Stores. When Lois retired, she took over decorating the sanctuary at the United Church. She had a love and a talent for decorating with flowers. Lois kept busy cooking, baking, and doing the numerous craft projects she enjoyed, there was always something on the go.
Close family has been a theme throughout Lois’s life. She was always present to support her children and welcomed each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she ensured they had lots to eat, and the cookie tin was always full. Each one had their own crocheted or knitted baby blankets, toques, scarves, smocked dresses, and anything else it was possible to craft, cook, or bake.
Lois was predeceased by her devoted husband Buster 6 years ago in 2017. She will be forever remembered and cherished by her loving family: Susan (Bill) Van Noortwyk, George (Karen) Hall, Edward “Ted” (Emilia) Hall; grandchildren: Mike (Kelli) Hall, Lindsay (Dan Erb), Kristin (Jim Stewart), Jessica (Brent Markus), Robyn (Kelson Willms), Jannelle (Danny Zhang), and Kelsey; great-grandchildren: Shayla, Brandon and Connor Hall, Grady and Meliya Stewart, Olivia and Mya Markus; cousin, Barbara Hagar and her family in Ontario; as well as her god-daughters: Barbara Farris and Judy (Ken Johnson) & family.
At Mum’s request, there will be a private service and interment at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church.
