HAMANN, Hilda

September 7, 1930 — August 31, 2023

Hilda Hamann passed away peacefully on August 31, 2023, just shy of her 93rd birthday, in Kelowna, BC. She is survived by her children, Doris (Gerhard) Steinke and Gilbert (Susan) Hamann; six grandchildren, Nicole (Josh) Eells, Jennifer Steinke, David (Ashley) Steinke, Mark (Katie) Steinke, Abigail Hamann, and Samuel Hamann; six great-grandchildren; her siblings Elsie Hembruch, Tabea (Edelbert) Janke, and Sig Wolf; numerous nieces and nephews; and her extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband Ewald in 1984; parents Fred and Olga Wolf; and siblings Bernhard, Erhard, Helmut, and Erna (Roland) Kober; sister-in-law Ann Wolf; and brother-in-law Wilhelm Hembruch.

Born in Lonschka, Poland, Hilda immigrated with her family to Vernon, BC, in 1950. After marrying Ewald in 1959 she moved with him to Edmonton where they started their family. The family relocated to Kelowna, BC, in 1965.

The family lost Ewald in 1984 when he passed away unexpectedly. On her own, Hilda continued to care for her family and sought out ways to contribute to her church and community. Over the years Hilda hosted numerous foreign and local college students in her home. She loved the Lord and volunteered in many different capacities in her church – visiting shut-ins, singing in the choir, and making beautiful flower arrangements with flowers, often from her own garden.

Mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother – these roles brought her fulfillment and joy. Hilda loved to travel and visited her children and grandchildren around the world, including Hong Kong, Germany, and the United States.

Loving, kind, and generous, Hilda was dearly loved and will be sincerely missed.

There will be a Graveside Service on Friday, September 8, 2023, at 12:00 noon, at Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery, 1991 Bernard Avenue, Kelowna, BC, with Pastor Rod Tribiger officiating. A Celebration of Life will follow at 1:30 PM, at the Mission Springs Church of God, 3705 Mission Springs Drive, Kelowna.
