We Remember
HAMILTON, Barbara Joan
December 4, 1950 — June 18, 2026
It is with peaceful hearts that we announce the passing of Barbara Joan Hamilton (née Bird), who passed away on June 18, 2026, at Central Okanagan Hospice House, at the age of 75.
Born and raised in Kelowna, BC, Barb later moved to Calgary, AB, to attend college, where she met and married Doug. Together, they welcomed their only child, Cheryll.
Barb excelled in her career, becoming one of the first women in Western Canada to be a manager in the industrial electrical sales field. Her drive and determination opened doors for those who came after her.
Her artistic flair was evident throughout her life, as she was the most creative one in the family. She was always family first, especially for her grandsons, “my boys”.
In retirement, Barb returned to her hometown of Kelowna, where she continued to pursue her passions for gardening and playing cards. She was a regular at the Catholic Women’s League.
Barbara will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Cheryll Newhouse; her grandchildren, Coen and Cael; and her siblings, Derek (Gail), Greg (Sue), Arlette (Bob), Colleen, and Kevin (Linda). She also leaves a gap in the lives of her besties, Ade and Diane, as well as her fur-babies Misty and River.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospice House Kelowna (Central Okanagan Hospice House) or the Okanagan Humane Society.
Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 11:00 AM (PDT), at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 2547 Hebert Rd, West Kelowna, BC.
