We Remember

HAMILTON, Janice Suzanne
May 13, 1949 — May 14, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Janice Suzanne Hamilton, née Janice Moore, known to many as Jan Craig, who left us peacefully surrounded by family, on May 14, 2025, at the age of 76.
Jan leaves behind a wealth of love, including her husband of 6 years, David; daughter Ashley Craig; brother Brian (Maria) Moore; sister-in-law Eva Moore; nieces Jessica Moore (Cameron Vinthers) and Sheri Moore (Quentin Timmons); and nephew Kris Moore (Chelsey Elise). She was beloved Nana to Mya, Coleton, Kaleb, Travis, Maryn, Miko, Kerris, Ethan, Angus, Brigette, Leif, Brynley and Kensley. Also left to cherish her memory are daughters of her heart Gerda Compass and Mary Springer; daughter-in-law Tabitha Hamilton (Dennis Teeft); and son-in-law Kevin Hamilton. She will also be deeply missed by her many friends who loved her dearly.
She went to heaven to join her parents Harold and Leah Moore, and brother Darryl Moore, who passed before her.
Jan dedicated her life to caring for others. She made the world a softer, more loving place – especially for children. Whether it was through her work, her family, or her everyday acts of kindness, Jan had a natural ability to connect with young hearts and bring out their brightest smiles. Her deep love for children led her to run a preschool, where she created a nurturing, safe space full of warmth and laughter. With a long and meaningful career as a public health nurse, she walked beside families during their most vulnerable moments, provided education and care in underserved communities, and never hesitated to get to work where she was needed most. Throughout her life, she gave generously – not only of her time and love, but also through her support of countless charities close to her heart.
As a single mother, Jan adopted her daughter Ashley and embraced motherhood with fierce devotion. She advocated, protected, celebrated, and uplifted her; there wasn’t anything that she would not do for Ashley.
She found tremendous joy in life’s simple pleasures. Her home was filled with colour, life, and warmth, much like her spirit. She was very artistic and creative, and was particularly fond of gardening and painting. Her gardens were a reflection of who she was; vibrant, nurturing, and full of life. Whether coaxing flowers and plants into bloom or growing fresh vegetables for the table, she found peace and purpose in the soil. She loved expressing herself through painting, capturing beauty in every brushstroke. Jan loved life and had a deep curiosity about the world. She was always on the move, eager to travel and experience life. Her generosity, kindness, and strength touched everyone who knew her. Jan lived life with intention and love.
Though she is no longer with us, her spirit lives on in the hearts of those she touched – with every act of kindness, every moment of courage, and every life made brighter by her presence.
In lieu of flowers, please consider showering her beloved daughter Ashley with love with a gift card (small denomination) of your choice. These cards can be mailed to:

So very sorry to read of Jan’s passing. I knew her when she worked for school district 23. She was a very kind and patient instructor. Ashley, I remember you from your friend with Devin. I am so sad to hear that you have lost your mom.
My deepest sympathies to Ashley, David and the family on the passing of Jan. She was the sweetest person one could meet and I am tremendously sadden with her loss. I’m glad she’s not suffering anymore and is at peace. I knew Jan thru sorority and have many wonderful memories with her.
My deepest sympathy for your loss. Jan was a lovely lady who always found something to smile about in life. She was very brave in her
battle with cancer, and tried her best to survive it. I’m so sorry she did not live longer. I knew Jan from the Forever Friends group, and I always enjoyed my time spent with her. She will be missed greatly.
I am sad for Ashley and all the other members of Jan’s family but grateful that Jan is now with her lord and saviour. I worked with Jan at IH and her smile and positive energy was a welcome sight. We shared our faith in texts after we both had retired. RiP Jan you served humanity well.💕💕
I am extremely sad to hear of Jan’s passing. Please know I’m thinking of you and sending prayers for you, her family and friends. I knew Jan from working as a preschool teacher. I remember the day she told me she was adopting Ashley. She was so excited she was bouncing around just like balloons reaching for the sky! Now she is floating and keeping a watch on you as the Angel she has always been.
