We Remember

HAMM, Dr. Rudolf “Rudy”

November 16, 1935 — December 16, 2024

It is with great love and respect that we announce the loss of Dr. Rudolf Hamm, who passed away on December 16, 2024, at the age of 89.

Rudy is survived and missed by his beloved wife of 65 years, Ruby; daughter Karin Siemens; son Michael Hamm; grandchildren Josiah (Kelsi), Roman, and Dimitry; siblings Bill, Johnny (Marrion), Ernie (Bev), Danny (Meda), Herman, Ben, Elsie (Carson), and Chuck (Bobbie); sister-in-law Gwen and brother-in-law Bob; along with many friends within the community. He now goes to join those who passed before him, including his parents Annie and Herman; brother Abe; sister Emily; and sister-in-law Marg.

Born on November 16, 1935, in Coaldale, Alberta, Rudy was the oldest of 11 children in a family that treasured hard work and togetherness. As the eldest of 9 boys and 2 girls, Rudy became a steadying presence on the family farm, taking on responsibilities that often made him more like a parent to his younger siblings. Even from an early age, Rudy’s kindness and work ethic shone brightly, traits that would define him throughout his remarkable life.

Rudy met Ruby, the love of his life, when they were just children, but their romance blossomed years later while attending Bible School together. They created a beautiful life rooted in faith, love, and shared dreams, raising their two children, Karin and Michael. Rudy’s journey as a medical doctor was one of his proudest achievements. A passionate and skilled physician, he was deeply dedicated to teaching and practicing medicine, earning the respect and admiration of his community. His intellect was matched only by his love of nature, and he found peace in gardening and the challenge of climbing mountains.

Rudy’s dedication to his faith extended beyond his family and local community. Throughout his career, he combined his medical expertise with his deep belief in service, spending years working in the mission field in the Congo, Ukraine, and Vietnam. Whether treating patients, teaching medical practices, or offering a compassionate ear, Rudy’s commitment to healing and his unwavering faith left an indelible impact on the lives of countless individuals across the globe.

Throughout his life, Rudy and Ruby travelled across Canada and the world, cherishing the adventures they shared and the memories they created. To his family, Rudy was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who led with wisdom and a kind heart. To his community, he was a trusted doctor and a pillar of strength. Rudy’s legacy of love, compassion, and dedication will live on in the countless lives he touched, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Condolences

  • Marrion Hamm & John Hamm says:

The one thing that is comforting to us, it the fact tha we know the Rudy has gone. Our condolences to Ruby and she too knows that Rudy has gone to be with the Father!

  • John & Marrion Hamm says:

We will be praying for the family and for those traveling to the memorial service. We are so glad that we were able to go up to Kelowna to visit Rudy and Ruby while Rudy was still alive! That was special to us and will always remain in our memory.

  • Sarah McCorquodale says:

Dear Ruby and family. I was saddened to hear this news. It has been a few years since you and Rudy met and with and helped mentor medical students in faith. We loved his stories of medicine, faith, travels and adventure.

  • Roy T Maroney says:

    Our deepest sympathy
We remember his sterling work in the local and national CMDA
I thank him for his leadership and the many social events that he invited us to fellowship with him and his family

  • Marrion & John Hamm says:

The one thing that will never die, are all of our memories. Like the one time that Chuck was chopping wood and the dog that Rudy had brought home from the city, got his nose too close to the chopping block and Chuck accidentally chopped a piece of the dogs nose off. When Dr Rudy Hamm came home, he sewed the dogs nose back on. There are many stories like this!

  • John Brinkerhoff says:

It was my honor and great pleasure to have served with Rudy in CMDS. Rudy was the spark and heart in that group. He so longed to see the Lord Jesus Christ exalted amongst his colleagues in Medicine. May His fruit remain.

  • Laurel Mills (previously Hamm) says:

Watched online and service was beautiful. Josiah did an amazing tribute to his grandpa and it was definitely a tear jerker.
Much love and bug hugs to all of you on this tough day.

  • Fay Kovacs says:

My condolences to Ruby and family on the loss of such an exceptional man. However, it is obvious Rudy will live on in the hearts and memories of you all. As well, Chilliwack High School can be proud of this 1954 graduate. Thank you for enabling me to attend the service online. Fay

  • Derek Hamm says:

Rudy and Ruby’s home in Abbotsford played host to incredible childhood memories for me as they welcomed the broader family for Christmas and Easter get togethers. Later, as an adult, Rudy welcomed me for dinners, also happily showing me his garden, at his home while I was living in Kelowna. Of course, Ruby’s cooking was a highlight, but Rudy’s family and travel stories, often told with a prideful smile, will always be cherished.

  • Tom & Phyllis Turner says:

Rudy and Ruby invited us to join a Bible Study when we first moved to Oyama. Rudy’s knowledge and leadership is well remembered , appreciated and cherished. We are praying for you, Ruby, during this time of mourning and change.
