HANET, Alfred

January 21, 1932 — August 12, 2021

Alfred Hanet went to be with the Lord at the age of 89 on August 12, 2021.

Alfred worked as a custodian for School District 23 for 28 years. He completed his career in that profession at Central Elementary School.

His parents and siblings owned, worked and lived on the land where the Rutland schools and complex are now, growing raspberries and onions.

As a young father, Alf worked for CP Rail, McGavin’s Bakery, Henderson’s Cleaners and worked in the “bush” as a logger.

He built the family home that his family lived in for 58 years.

Alfred was known for being hard-working, generous, loyal, and a lifelong learner.

Alfred is survived by his daughter Brenda (Johnnie Townsend) Burdge; daughter Sharon (Dennis) Weber of Didsbury; son Jim (Sheila), of West Kelowna; son Wayne (Val) of Williams Lake; and son-in-law Don Burdge. He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren: Michael Griesser; Heather (Walt) Lucente; Stacy (Jon) Tober; Stephanie (Adam) Patterson; Tyler (Ashley) Hanet; Matt (Jessica) Hanet; Rachel and Joel Hanet; Emma, Meghan, and Sarah Hanet. As well as his 12 great-grandchildren: Tremaine Cofell; Wally and Levon Lucente; Everett and Olyvia Tober; Rhys and Nora Patterson; Kinleigh, Olivia and Maverick Hanet; and Theo and Aubrey Hanet. Alfred also leaves behind his loving companion Shirley Kirschke; sister Bunny (Peter) Pincin; brother Alphonse Hanet; sister-in-law Doris Hanet; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Alfred was predeceased by his loving wife of 58 years Sally Kathleen (d. 2010); his parents Julius and Olga; son-in-law David Griesser; and his brothers Fred and Adolph.

A Funeral Service will be held to honour Alfred, due to the current pandemic restrictions it will be by invitation only. The family would like to invite all who want to pay their respects to join by Livestream on THURSDAY, AUGUST 19, 2021, at 1:00 PM PDT. A recording will be made available to view shortly thereafter.
