We Remember
HANNA, Doreen Willodene
February 12, 1941 — October 10, 2026
With love and grateful hearts for a life richly lived, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mom, grandma and friend, Doreen Willodene Hanna, surrounded by family on October 10, 2026.
Doreen is survived by her children, Dawn Hanna (Brent Dorion), Kelly Hanna (Ken Moen), and Hilary Hanna; her grandchild, Leelan Hanna Charles; her siblings, Roger Fraser and Carolyn Pohl; and many extended family members and friends.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 59 years, Bill Hanna (d. February 23, 2021); her parents, Ross and Willodene Fraser; and her brother, Dale Fraser.
Mom was our “word girl” with a profound appreciation for the power of words to inspire, influence and sometimes provoke. She was quick with a wise or witty remark, an unexpected observation and an easy laugh. Optimistic, resourceful and curious, she was very much a “live for today” lady. She loved to dance, play cards and games, strike up a conversation, and bring people together; always making room for one more at the table.
A devoted mom, wife, grandma and friend, she was also industrious and entrepreneurial throughout her life, from running a small daycare and selling Tupperware and Watkins when we were young to working in a hair salon, a fabric store, and retail. She gave generously of her time, from delivering meals to those in need, serving her church and spiritual community, volunteering on election days, and together with Dad welcoming international students and others for home stays. A lifelong artist and creator, she explored acrylics, pencil, mixed media, wood burning, rug hooking, liquid embroidery and quilting. A master seamstress, she taught sewing professionally and nurtured a lifelong love of fashion, including many years as a certified Colour Analysis Consultant.
For 32 years, Mom’s primary career was as a Hypnotherapist and Reiki Master, reflecting her enduring interest in health, wellness, spirituality and personal growth. An avid reader and lifelong learner, she was always exploring new ideas and taking courses. Raised on a farm, she retained a love of gardening, wholesome cooking and making things by hand. She delighted in working alongside family and friends, whether picking berries, making pies, popcorn balls or handmade Christmas chocolates. She encouraged us to get outdoors, embrace new experiences and live life to the fullest. Travel brought her great joy, from many family camping trips and visits to Northern Ireland, to adventures across Canada and the United States, and cruises to the Caribbean, the Bahamas, Alaska, Hawaii and Panama.
Above all, Mom embraced life with an abiding belief in possibilities, an ever-curious mind, a creative spirit, a generous nature and an open heart.
Memorial donations may be made to A Living Tribute or to the Central Okanagan Hospice House.
