We Remember

HANSEN, Rhonda Jean
July 7, 1965 — April 13, 2025
Rhonda Jean Hansen passed unexpectedly in her home in Kelowna, BC, on April 13, 2025, at the age of 59. Born in the gold mining town of Wells, BC, on July 7, 1965, she brought gentle kindness and love into the world.
A woman of softness and spirit, Rhonda lived her days while keeping close to the things she loved: books that opened up whole worlds, old Westerns that echoed simpler times, and music that spoke to tenderness, especially when sung by Rod Stewart. She had a quiet devotion to all creatures small and vulnerable: baby animals, babies themselves, and even the delicate figurines of angels and praying hands she kept close. It was often said, and rightly so, that she wouldn’t hurt a fly. Now, surrounded by the angels she so dearly loved, Rhonda has found the light she always believed in.
While she was here, Rhonda found peace when she was with her family – she especially loved bugging her daughter. She is remembered with love by her daughter Sarah and daughter-in-law Sam; by her sister Donna; nephew Ryan; great-nephew Hayden; her surviving aunt; and a constellation of cousins and friends too many to name but never forgotten. She was predeceased by her mother, Laura Hansen, whose memory she kept close to her heart.
Those who knew Rhonda remember her empathy as something sacred. She left behind no grand declarations, only a quiet legacy of kindness – giving selflessly, even when she had little to give. We know she has now found peace, back with her mother in heaven.
In her memory, donations may be made to the Okanagan Humane Society (OHS), where her (and her daughter’s) love for animals can continue to do gentle work in the world.
