HANSON, Mary Madeline (Maddy)
July 22, 1957 — August 30, 2024
Maddy, age 67, of Kelowna, BC, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2024 surrounded by her family.
Maddy was born in Neepawa Manitoba July 22, 1957 to Charles (Bud) Hanson and Leila (O’Sullivan) Hanson. Maddy was the youngest of six children. She was predeceased by her parents and her former husband, John Green.
Maddy graduated from Neepawa Area Collegiate Institute in 1975 and from the University of Manitoba in 1980.
Prior to leaving Winnipeg Maddy was the Vice President of Marketing for the Winnipeg Jets. As VP of Marketing Maddy was involved in the initiation of the “Winnipeg Whiteout” which is now so popular among cheering fans throughout the Sporting World.
In 2002 Maddy moved to Kelowna, BC with her husband John Green.
Maddy lived a full and active life being a woman of many talents and interests. She will be remembered for her intelligence, her natural curiosity, her quick wit, her sense of humour, her generosity, her kindness, and her beautiful smile that always lit up the room.
Maddy made many friends along the way. She loved traveling, hiking, cycling, volunteering and was a long-time member of Global Fitness Kelowna. Maddy loved nature and found joy in birds, especially the chick-a-dee. She was a gentle, thoughtful and caring daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to many.
Her beauty radiated from within.
Maddy is survived by her siblings Neil Hanson (Lisa Denomme), Michele Liebrock (Chuck), Carl Hanson (Robert Von Platen), Patricia Kelly (Larry), and Suzanne Simourd (Micheal).
Maddy was cremated in Kelowna and an interment will be held in Neepawa, MB at a future date.
Maddy and her family wish to thank her many kind friends, Dr. Wendy Wickstrom and staff, Dr. Susan Ellard, Dr. Evelyn Kwok, the Interior Health Palliative Care team, and the Central Okanagan Hospice House for their care and support.

I am so sorry for your families loss💔❣️ I only met Maddy a few times but she was an amazing and sweet spirit…that was immediately apparent. So full of love, kindness and cheek too. I got so much joy out of watching you Patti, running up hills with Maddy…both of you giggling non stop…so alike..so loving. A beautiful sister bond for the ages!!! I’m so sorry your heart is heavy, Patti and that all of you had to say goodbye! I imagine Maddy is making heaven a better place now! She was a very beautiful light❣️ 🕊️
Such sad news. I have many wonderful memories of Madeline and her family from days gone by in Neepawa. Deepest condolences to all who loved her.

So sorry for your loss! Only fond memories of school days with Madeline. We first met at Sunday School. Everyone enjoyed being around her. She was kind, lovely, and always made everyone feel welcome. We reconnected some time ago on Facebook – so nice to be in touch. Way too young for her to be gone!

Our sincere condolences to the entire family. Maddy was so true, so kind. Her love was her cherished family and friends. I first met Maddy many years ago as we passed each other hiking Knox Mountain, a beautiful soul with a more beautiful smile. Then Maddy became an integral member of our biking group. Maddy will be dearly missed and I feel honoured to have been her friend.
I will certainly miss that sparkling face as I walk the waterfront. She was certainly sunshine and happiness. Carl & Bob I am so sorry for your loss. How lucky you had her for the short time you did…
Our hearts go out to the entire Hanson Family, and their partners. We had the pleasure of meeting Maddy only once however we felt a connection to her through her sisters Patti and Michelle, who described her as “being the best of us”. She garnered such high praise from her sisters and family, and we understood what a remarkable woman she was. And this obituary reaffirms how close she was to them and to her community. Her life, and the way she lived it, has left a wonderful legacy for many to aspire to. Rest in peace beautiful Madeline.

It has been my great good fortune to know Maddy for more than two decades. While we never seemed to see each other as often or for as long as I would have liked, it was always a thoroughly enjoyable, interesting and often inspiring experience. In recent years, I have marveled at her courage, her optimism, the complete absence of self-pity and her continued good as she has fought to regain her health, or at least to prolong her life. Maddy was a remarkable woman. We will miss her a great deal.
