We Remember
HANSON, Richard
August 21, 1955 — August 13, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Neil Hanson on August 13, 2023, at the age of 67.
Richard will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Catherine Lewis; his mother, Joan Ellergodt (Scott); siblings Robert (Carol) and Lorie (Barry); several nieces and nephews; as well as his many friends: Greg, John, Cory, Don, Tracey, Georgina, Laurie, Tim, and Karen. He goes to join his father, Dennis Ellergodt, who passed before him.
Richard’s love for animals was a defining aspect of his character. His dogs held a special place in his heart. An adventurer at heart, Richard’s passions for motorcycles and boating showcased his fearless exploration of life’s thrills. Richard’s uniqueness extended to his picky eating habits, which added a touch of individuality to his character. He made up for it, with his talent for cooking that brought joy to those who had the opportunity to taste his creations; he had earned his chef papers during his military days.
Richard’s passions, quirks, and even his foibles will be treasured and remembered forever by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
To honour Richard, a Memorial Service will be held on FRIDAY, AUGUST 25, 2023, at 4:00 PM (PDT), at SPRINGFIELD FUNERAL HOME, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC. My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Richard. He was a fellow Veteran and I had the privilege to be able to spend some time with him over his later years. He had strong vocal beliefs, a dry humour, and straight forward view and love of life. He was taken from us much too early but he is now at peace and pain free. He will be missed.
Richard , My Love..
Richard was a man of strong views, strength and conviction. He could be so generous to his friends and especially to me his wife . It was his way of showing his Care and Love .
Sharing some Lovely memories of our earlier years :
Richard was very much a regular at ‘ The Blue Gator’ He enjoyed Live music very much. One of his favourite musicians was Steve Ray Vaughan. He somehow always managed to get the local band to play a Stevie Ray Vaughan song for him.
Oh Boy, for a man of his size and height he sure could move on the dance floor, never missing a beat or step! I often felt like I had two left feet trying to keep pace with him .
Though I have some ancestry in Canada, it was thanks to Richard I saw and fell in love with the stunning beauty of Canada.
I will always be grateful to him, for introducing and welcoming me to the kindness of his family, this beautiful country and it’s lovely people..
I will always treasure these memories and so many more !
Richard, You will always be in my Heart and in my Soul.
I love you !
Yours forever…
Catherine
