We Remember

HARMAN, Melynda

January 7, 1957 — August 8, 2021

Melynda Harman passed away peacefully on August 8, 2021, at home surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on January 7, 1957, in Vancouver, British Columbia to Malcolm and Ginny Campbell. The youngest of four girls – Margaret, Sandy, Fran; she married her high school sweetheart Thomas Harman in 1980. Together they shared in the love of raising their family and welcomed their children Jason (1982) and Emily (1986) in Burnaby, and later moved to Kelowna in 1996.

Melynda loved to care for her friends and family. She was happiest when in her creative element. From cooking, gardening, reading and crafting – she always enjoyed spoiling her family and friends with her artistic pursuits. Melynda was inherently sharp, witty and fun-loving. She had a spirited and loving personality and always made people around her laugh and feel welcome in her home. She will always be remembered for delicious home cooking and her adored apple pie and cinnamon buns (with raisins, of course).

Melynda’s life centered around her role as a dedicated and loving mother and grandma. She loved working with children and devoted many years volunteering with various schools in Burnaby and Kelowna. She treasured her time spent with her children, Jason (Andrea), and Emily (Jon); and her grandsons Elliott and Avery; and her late granddaughter, Bronwyn.

Melynda loved to travel, learn about the world, and spend time in Palm Springs. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family, especially her girlfriends.

Above all, Melynda will be profoundly missed by her loving husband, Tom, her best friend and partner in life. They recently celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary. Tom and her daughter Emily lovingly stood by and cared for Melynda throughout her courageous battle with breast cancer during these past two years.

A private celebration of Melynda’s life will be held in the fall. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Breast Cancer Society of Canada, the BC Cancer Foundation,  and Canuck Place.

Sending our deepest condolences in the loss of the most caring, loving, quick witted, incredible host and chef , mother, Grandma, sister and a friend and bestie of 51 years. I will cherish the wonderful girl weekend trips ( with our bestie Karen) ,our glorious trip to Italy and our many holidays together. A childhood dream of us girls was living in the same neighborhood as adults. It was so sweet to wake up in Palm Springs … walk down the road in my PJ’s and have a cup of coffee with Melynda . . So sweet!!!!! Sending big hugs to Tom and family . Our hearts are with you all during such a difficult time . How blessed we all were to have known such an incredible woman. ❤️❤️

Our heartfelt condolences to Tom and family for your loss. It is hard to convey in words how much a friend so much a part your life will be missed. Together, Melynda , Diane and I shared so many magical and memorable times of our lives together. Who can forget Diane and Bruce’s Anniversary Toga party! Melynda had a wickedly good wit, she loved her wine and she was a fabulous cook. Staying with Mel and Tom was always a special treat. Melynda had so many special gifts but her friendship was the gift to be treasured most. May all the wonderful memories or our time with Melynda help bring some comfort at this time..
