We Remember
HARRHY, Susan (Sue)
—
HARRHY, Sue (nee Willumsen) – Sue passed away on March 1st, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. This sad passing was brought about after another visit with the curse of cancer. During this encounter she showed her usual bravery, strength and, above all, grace.
Born in High River, Alberta and raised to be a farm girl in Okotoks, she never lost her practical and “get ‘er done” spirit. She had a steely resilience and a gentle heart. She used both to provide a caring and compassionate space for her many friends and in her service as a counsellor in Kelowna, where she had practiced since 1993. Sue often counted her blessings and was so grateful for the richness of her life that included travel, fine friends and a loving family including her husband Dave, her two wonderful sons Michael and Scott, and more recently their partners Altaira and Rachel. She had great affection for her “sib” John, his partner Lisa, and was a proud aunt to Lucas and Nicola.
A celebration of life service will be held at the Mary Irwin Theatre at Rotary Centre for the Arts, 421 Cawston Ave, Kelowna on Saturday, March 16th at 2:00 pm. In advance of that, we are asking for friends and family to send their warm memories to us, so that we can truly celebrate her life. Please send single descriptive words, stories, or pictures that reflect your memories of Sue by March 13th, to Sueharrhymemorial@gmail.com. Condolences for the family may also be sent to this site.
A special thanks to her entire medical team for the excellent care in the community, and the Cancer Centre for the Southern Interior, and at Kelowna General Hospital. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the BC Cancer Foundation – Patient Emergency Fund, 399 Royal Avenue, Kelowna, BC. V1Y 5L3.

So sorry that our KCKC president has left us . She was such a wonderful choice for President and a very nice and helpful member.
.
It is with a heavy heart that I say goodbye to my friend, mentor and colleague. I will miss her warm smile, patience and kindness. The office space we shared for many years will always feel her wonderful presence. I’m sending a heartfelt hug to Dave, Scott, Michael and all her family, friends and connections.
As a member of KCKC, our club is in shock that we lost not only our President, but the nicest lady. She always had a smile on her face and when she spoke, we listened as she just knew the correct way to solve any matters we were discussing. Our prayers goes out to Dave and her sons.
I am so very sad knowing our lovely Sue has left us. I got to know Sue through our shared love of being on the water in our kayaks. Sue always smiled, and is one of the sweetest, most gentle and kind hearted people I have ever known. We will miss you lots Sue, and will think of you often when we’re out there paddling. Sending my condolences to Dave and all the family.
Dear Dave, Scott & Michael. My deepest sympathy for your loss. Sue had a warmth about her that you could feel as soon as you met her. What a kind soul. She will be missed by many. Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time.

I was so shock to learn of Sue’s passing. She counselled my son, Jamie who had been hospitalized depression. He loved Sue and so did I. She took the time to contact with Jamie and myself outside of meeting times. I had been planning to call her and let her know that Jamie, who now lives in California, is doing so much better. I had no idea that she was ill. Hugs to all of her family and know that she made a difference. Cindy and Jamie
Sincere condolences David and family.
Dear Dave, Michael, Scott and family,
My sincere sympathy on the passing of your dear wife and mother, Sue. I am very saddened to read of her passing.
I lived on the same farm as Sue, Larville Farms, just outside Okotoks when we were young. Even as a child she had a kind way about her. On Oct 8/2018 we ran into each other at the Copenhagen airport, a very special chance meeting. Or visit at the airport and on the flight home to Canada was such a special time for me as we spoke of our family connection and our connection to Denmark.. I had so hoped to stop in at your home to visit with Sue and her family one day.
Sue was a very special human being with her gentle heart and caring and compassionate way that had touched myself and many others in her life.
My thoughts and prayers to you all.
Annette Robinson (nee: Larsen)- Okotoks, AB
Dear Dave and family,
I was devastated to hear of Sue’s passing. She was such a thoughtful person, with that wonderful mix of kindness and intelligence. I will never forget how she reached out to me during my own cancer journey, lending me her support and grace. My heartfelt condolences as I know she will be deeply missed.

We met Sue one summer at the Fintry paddle clinic. Sue was our closest camp neighbor as we arranged and set up “home” for a weekend of Kayaking instruction and meeting new friends. We immediately connected and discovered many common interests from travel sense of humor being Danish and of course our love of the water. Sharing the morning cup of coffee Sue was a comfortable person to be around. It is will great sadness we learned of her passing and send strength to the family as Sue would want all to carry on loving. In her memory.
I too have had the pleasure of Sue’s attention and listening ear thru both messenger and in person during my chapter of cancer as well. I will never forget the day trip to paddle about on the lake with Sue, Lisa and Nicola too. Warm smiles, hugs and love sent to all of your family and extended family of friends today. I know you will be watching from a cloud somewhere Sue!
Please accept my sincere condolences – Sue was a woman of great integrity in both her personal and professional lives. I only had the good fortune to bump into her periodically, but enjoyed every time I did. Sending wishes for peace in this sad time.
