HAWTHORNE, Frank
—
It is with great sadness that the family of Frank Hawthorne announces his passing on Friday, May 2, 2014 at the age of 87. Frank was survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Ruth and his four daughters Beverley Oshanek, Brenda Zmean (Perre), Valerie Massey (Rick) and Debbie McEwen (Terry). Frank will also be fondly remembered by his ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Frank was predeceased by his parents George and Hazel Hawthorne and his six brothers: Roland, Victor, Bob, Harvey, Jim and Gordon.
Frank was born in 1926 in Gull Lake, SK. He started working for Revelstoke Lumberyard at 16 years of age. From 1949-1967, he was the manager of the Revy Lumberyard in Tilley, AB. Also, during these years, he was the Secretary of the Village of Tilley, Secretary of the Grazing Association, was on the fire brigade and worked towards many improvements for Tilley, AB. He was also the manager for Revy in Olds, AB from 1968-1973 and Brooks, AB from 1973-1975. He and his family then moved to Didsbury, AB from 1975-2012, where he managed the Revelstoke store until his retirement in 1985 with a total of 43 loyal years.
Frank was involved in many volunteer groups in each community and would be the first person to help his fellow neighbour. Frank’s greatest joy was woodworking in his garage, building wishing wells and washer games. He was also a member of the Lions Club for 35 years. He was loved by his family and many friends and could brighten any day with his deep laugh and encouraging playfulness.
