We Remember
HEIGHES, Leroy Douglas
July 8, 1945 — August 26, 2024
Born on July 8, 1945 in Lethbridge, Alberta, the fun-loving Leroy Heighes passed away peacefully on August 26, 2024, at the age of 79. Leroy leaves a legacy of love in the form of his surviving family: his one and only, Janice Coleen Heighes, who he was married to for 41 years; their children Carol Robideau, Leesa Bisson (Joel), Keegan Heighes-Desture (Amanda), and Sheena Korms (Kyle); numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even one great-great-grandchild; as well as his numerous nieces and nephews. He has gone to join his stepdaughter Denise Pare; his beloved mother, Margaret Heighes; and his brother Gordon Heighes, who all predeceased him.
Leroy lived the motto “work hard, play hard” and kept a strong connection to his roots and passions. For many years, Leroy was an Electrician in the mining industry in Elkford, BC, where they mine for coal. But life wasn’t all about the grind of work, he was light-hearted and funny, always making others laugh. His own laugh was distinctive, we will remember it always, it brightened the darkest of places. After work, he would crank up the tunes in his prized Camero and let George Thorogood or Tina Turner blast away! Classic vehicles were his jam, and he loved the roar of an engine. For quiet, well, Leroy found that in the wilderness, where he would venture out for hunting.
Leroy didn’t fall for glitz and glam, he was proud of the life he built with Janice, they kept things simple. They loved their kids and got to see their grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up. Leroy lived long enough to become a great-great-grandpa, which filled his heart with joy. He was able to spend his last four years enjoying life in the Okanagan valley with Janice, where they could have fun in the sun, on the beautiful lakes, and out on the open road (when possible).
While no formal service will be held, friends and family will raise a glass and say farewell, each in their own time. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the KGH Foundation.
