We Remember

HEIN, Rudolf

May 30, 1938 — February 25, 2024

On February 25, 2024, Rudolf “Rudy” Hein passed away peacefully at the age of 85, with his sister Linda and niece Rita by his side, after a short battle with lung cancer. He is now in the company of his lovely wife Pauline Hein, his younger sister Hildegard Klinger, and his parents Benjamin and Hulda Hein who all passed on before him.

Rudy will be very missed by his older brother Emil (Edda) Hein, his younger sister Linda Melcher, his brother-in-law Reinhold Klinger and many nieces & nephews, his stepson, and his friends.

Rudy was born in May 1938 in Fuerstenfold, Romania. He grew up on a farm there with his brother until about 1940, when his family left Romania and went to Austria, where his sister Hildegard was born. Then, they settled in Poland for a while, where his sister Linda was born. In 1944, the family fled Poland and went to Germany. While in Germany, Rudy worked for the Railroad. He moved to Canada in October 1957 with his brother.  They landed in Montreal, QC and took the train to Calgary, AB, where Rudy found a job as a carpenter helper.

In the late 1960s, while Rudy was doing a lot of construction work, he met Pauline, an interior designer, and formed a friendship that blossomed into marriage on July 25, 1970. They continued to work together throughout their marriage, building houses in BC in Vancouver, Kelowna, and White Rock. They retired to West Kelowna, BC in 1999 and lived there for 15 years prior to Pauline’s passing in 2014.  During their marriage they had a lot of fun adventures together with many trips to Mexico and Arizona, US.

One of his passions in life and especially in retirement was playing Tennis and then Pickleball. He spent a lot of time with his friends on the courts. Many of them were shocked to see how well he played even in his 80s.
