We Remember

HEMMERLING, Ida
—
1927 – 2025
Ida passed into the presence of her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on June 20, 2025, at the age of 98.
Ida Hemmerling (née Bredin) was born in Dominion City, Manitoba in 1927 to Alfred and Natalia Bredin, a sister to four brothers. She lived her first ten years in Beausejour, MB with the family. A sister joined the family in 1930. In July 1937, Ida moved to Kelowna, BC with her parents, four brothers and a sister.
On July 9,1939, on profession of her faith in Christ, Ida was baptized by Reverend Albert Krombein and joined the fellowship of Grace Baptist Church. She served joyfully in this fellowship as a Sunday School teacher, in youth activities, and especially in music.
Upon graduating from Herbert’s Business College in Kelowna in 1945 she was employed with Okanagan Packers as a steno/bookkeeper.
On April 24, 1948, she was united in marriage with Otto Hemmerling. They took up residence in their orchard property home on Long Hill Road in Kelowna. They welcomed three children to this union: Moira, Donna, and Robert “Bob”. In 1961, she became a charter member of Trinity Baptist Church in Kelowna. She again volunteered her talents in piano, choir, and at Sunday School. She organized the Girls Missionary Guild (GMG) at Trinity. She served in leadership and actively in this organization from 1962 to 1972. She was employed with Glenmore Irrigation District as steno/bookkeeper from January 1976 to April 1985. In retirement, she served as a volunteer to Kelowna General Hospital auxiliary as secretary. At Trinity, she volunteered as receptionist, and in several capacities of Women’s Missionary Fellowship (WMF) and Ladies Time Out (LTO). Later, she served in the newly built hospitality centre, and the Alpha program. Faith played a central role in Ida’s life. Trinity Baptist Church was not only a place of worship, but also where she built deep friendships and nurtured her spiritual growth.
Ida treasured the time spent with their five precious grandchildren and their families and a host of loyal and loving friends. She was a gracious hostess to family and friends from near and far. As a follower of Jesus, Ida’s faith was central to how she lived her life. The family is grateful for her love and influence in their lives.
Ida was predeceased by her parents and all her siblings, and by Otto, her beloved husband of over 68 years.
She leaves to cherish her memory: daughter Moira (Frank) Ryttersgaard, grandson Mark (Sara) Ryttersgaard, and great-granddaughters Sophia and Ellie; daughter Donna (Gerald) Newman, granddaughter Jen Newman and grandson Ryan (Raela) Newman; son Bob (Kristine) Hemmerling, and grandson Jeff Hemmerling (Henrietta), and granddaughter Erin Hemmerling.
The family would like to express their profound appreciation for the love and care provided by the staff at Mountainview Village, and the compassionate and professional attention to Ida’s medical needs by Dr. M. Koss.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Green Bay Bible Camp, West Kelowna in memory of Ida will be appreciated (www.greenbay.bc.ca).

So many wonderful memories and blessings to cherish of the times we’ve spent together. She is now at peace with the Lord. My condolences to the family and may her gentle smile and great memories be with you always., Edith Grube
I get goose-bumps thinking about her entry into Heaven – the transition to her forever body, meeting Jesus face to face and all the emotions that go with that (I can only imagine), recognizing and calling by name the family & friends she knew so long ago, knowing the faces and names of the Bible characters she taught so many Sunday School stories of. I can imagine her recognizable giggle as she meets each one. Her forever has just begun……PTL
To Ida’s family, especially Moira and Frank and Mark and family, we were saddened to hear the news of Moira’s mom’s homecoming. Such joy for her but such a loss for you. May God richly provide the comfort each of you need and bless you with wonderful memories of such a sweet and significant woman in your lives. With our love and prayers, Peter & Melanie

Aunt Ida was a special aunt. I have many good memories of time spent with her as I was growing up. She put on a wonderful party for my friends and I when I graduated from high school. She was a wonderful, godly lady. We pray that you sense God’s peace and His Presence in a very special way at this time. Lots of love, Frank and Esther
