We Remember
HEMMERLING, Otto
September 30, 1924 — December 8, 2016
Otto passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, on December 8, 2016, surrounded many of his loved ones.
Otto was born in Poland in 1924 to Fredrick and Emma Hemmerling, and immigrated to Canada with his family in 1928. He is survived by Ida, his beloved wife of 68 years, their children Moira (Frank) Ryttersgaard, Donna (Gerald) Newman, and Bob Hemmerling; grandchildren Mark (Sara) Ryttersgaard, Jen and Ryan Newman, and Jeff and Erin Hemmerling, and two great-granddaughters, Sophia and Ellie Ryttersgaard. Otto is also survived by his brothers: Hellmut (Pat) Hemmerling, Bill Hemerling, and Herb (Shirley) Hemerling, and sister: Betty Ann (Bob) Frost; stepsister Janet(Al) Hait, stepbrother Clary (Lynn) Rode, and many other loving family and friends.
Otto’s family wish to express their profound appreciation to the staff and volunteers of Mountainview Village for the abundant love and care provided during the past 3 years. We also want to express our gratitude to Dr W.R Mackle who Otto viewed not only as his Doctor, but as a caring friend.
Otto leaves a legacy of love and gratitude: first for his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ in whom he placed his trust in his youth; also for his beloved Ida with whom he enthusiastically shared all of life, for better, for worse, for richer for poorer, in sickness and in health; then, for his family who he nurtured, supported and faithfully prayed for; and for countless others whose lives were touched by his warmth, generosity, and friendship, always accompanied by his cheerful smile.
A celebration of Otto’s life will be held Friday December 16, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Trinity Baptist Church, 1905 Springfield Rd, Kelowna BC.

My sincere condolences to the Hemmerling Family as we share in the sorrow of Otto’s passing. He was a great source of joy, encouragement and love to all those who cared for him at MVV and will be so sadly missed. We will never forget his warm smile and kind words that he freely shared with everyone around him. God bless each of you at this time.
I knew Otto for just a few short months as a volunteer at MVV. His friendly smile, obvious faith in the Lord, and his deep love for his wife and family were such a blessing to me. I will miss seeing him each week. May God hold each of you close in the coming days.
So sorry for your loss. May you feel God’s presence throughout these next days and weeks.
We extend our sincere condolences to Ida and other family members at this time of sorrow. We fondly remember Otto’s friendly smile and gracious attitude to all when they made their home in The Fountains.
I am one of the countless others whose lives were touched by Otto’s warmth, generosity, and friendship, which was always accompanied by his cheerful smile.
I met Otto and Ida in the early 1980 at Trinity Baptist Church and have kept in touch over the years.
When I think of Otto my heart is warmed by the love he showed to Ida. After he retired he said that he was so happy to be in the house sharing the chores and activities that Ida was doing in the kitchen. He said it like he had been longing to be there with her. I’d never heard a man say that before, and it made quite an impression on me.
Much later, my family met Otto and Ida at the Mountainview Village, where my husband’s father was living on the same ward as Ida. We were all moved by the dedicated love that Otto enthusiastically showed Ida every day. A true love story that bring tears to my heart when I think of it.
Otto always had encouraging words for me, my husband Walter and daughter Susie.
We have wonderful fond memories of him and are deeply sadden to hear of his passing.
