We Remember

HEMMETT, John (Glover)
—
John was born on August 31, 1964, in Harrogate Yorkshire, UK.
Following the death of her husband John’s mother, Marjorie moved John and his sisters Suzanne and Annette to Canada. They settled on the Westside where John grew up. Sadly June 28, 2021, at 12:11 PM John passed away peacefully with his wife of 24 years, Sarah, by his side. John had fought a brave fight for over a year with Cancer first, and then with Covid.
Although considered a gentle giant John was a strong man who was a rock to his family. He loved his sons Alex and Zach and his wife Sarah passionately. He was loved back the same way by all. John will be sadly missed by his friends and family in Canada and the UK, as well as his City of Kelowna friends where he worked as the Risk and Claims Analyst for 16 years.
Thank you to everyone, especially my dear friend Monica, for your love, support, and prayers throughout this difficult journey.
Thank you to the wonderful nurses at the Kelowna General Hospital ICU who took care of John. Maggie, Kristan, Connie, Kate, Stephanie, and Mathew to name a few.
A special thank you to ICU Doctor White who I called our angel. In the end days for my husband, he stood in the gap between life and death and showed the utmost compassion and understanding towards a wife who couldn’t let go of her beloved Husband.
“When you go to heaven you go to eternity, so John, my love, I will be with you in a moment.”
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation. Specifically, to the ICU Unit for radios and CD players in Memory of John.

Dear Sarah, Alex and Zach, I worked with John at the City until I retired a few years ago. We had so many conversations mostly centred around our families. John’s love of you was so clear. His face always lit up when talking about going to a movie or attending one of the kids games. John was a gentle giant who whose smile lit up a room. At work, he had the answer to some complex issues we faced and always dealt with them with compassion and understanding. John will be sorely missed by me and those he touched. A great friendly man who is sorely missed. My deepest condolences to you all.
I worked with John at the City. When we first started I sat close to him and was always amazed at the patience and empathy he had when dealing with people. He loved to tell me about his family and you could tell how proud he was of them. He was a wonderful person. I am so sorry for your loss and I will keep his family in my prayers.
Dear Sarah, Alex and Zachary
Our prayers and thoughts are with each of you at this time. John was a kind, gentle soul who was always keen to help, a warm smile and showed how much he loved and cared for each of You.
John talked of his “boys” with great pride especially at football games.
Also, Sarah he clearly loved you very much; your flair for detail and the way you make friends feel special.
Sending you our thoughts at this moment.
