We Remember

HERRMANN, Heinz Walter

May 22, 1926 — July 17, 2023

Heinz Walter Herrmann passed away peacefully July 17, 2023, in Kelowna, BC, at the age of 97 years. Heinz was born on May 22, 1926 in Leipzig, Germany, immigrated to Calgary, Alberta, Canada in 1952, moved to the BC Lower Mainland in 1960, and then to Kelowna in 1975.  He leaves behind his much loved children, Christa (Lloyd) Kjellbotn and Gordon (Gwen) Herrmann. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 67 years, Frieda; his son, Gerry; and great-granddaughter, Julia.

Heinz was a fun-loving and affectionate Opa to Kari, Kim (Ian), Tina, and Amanda (Mike); and he leaves behind three great-grandchildren, Ashley, Jordan and Aeris. Heinz is also survived by numerous family members in Germany, and he treasured their visits to Kelowna and the times he could travel back to his homeland in his younger years.

Heinz was a hard-working, soft-hearted man who loved his garden, playing games with family and friends, doing puzzles, reading, and going to the casino. He would light up when receiving photos, letters, and cards lovingly sent to him. He was the life of the party in his early years, dressing up, dancing, and playing the accordion. He was always up for sharing jokes and stories, with sparkles in his kind eyes. He will be dearly missed and in our hearts forever.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kelowna General Hospital through the KGH Foundation.

An opportunity to pay last respects and visit with family will be held for a brief time on Wednesday morning, (JULY 26, 2023) at Springfield Funeral Home (2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC) before leaving at 9:45 AM (please, arrive according to the time you wish to have, to say your farewells and a viewing). Alternatively, you are welcome to join the family for the Graveside Funeral, at 10:00 AM, at Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery (1991 Bernard Ave, Kelowna, BC).

So sorry to hear of the passing of Oncle Heinz. Many fond memories of visiting Frieda, Heinz and all the kids at their small farm in Abbotsford in the 1960’s. Even though he was not really our uncle we always called him oncle as our families were very close.
