We Remember
HILLS, Percy Nicholas
November 14, 1939 — January 19, 2023
Percy Hills was born November 14, 1939, in Peace River, Alberta, and he passed away, peacefully, on January 19, 2023, surrounded by loved ones, just two short weeks after a diagnosis of brain cancer.
Percy was the sixth child of nine siblings, who were born and raised on a homestead farm. Percy was predeceased by his wife, Margaret, in 2021 (married 1984). Percy is survived by his children Ann, Nick (Gale), and Shannon; his grandchildren, Adrien (Myles), Eden, and Scott (Reo); and his three great-granddaughters.
Percy retired in 1994 after 35 years as a member of the RCMP. He served in Terrace, Tahsis, Armstrong, Vanderhoof, Smithers, and finally Kelowna. Percy lived life to the fullest every single day. Passionate about hunting, fishing, and all things outdoors, he also embraced all kinds of activities, including downhill skiing, going to the gym (even though he sabotaged everyone else’s workouts with his friendly chatter), and kayaking right until the end. He spent as much time as possible in the wilderness and loved travelling the backroads of BC in his truck and camper, especially with his wife, Margaret. Margaret introduced Percy to Scuba diving, and travelling, and this became their joint passion. Percy was a devoted husband, visiting Margaret daily in her long-term care home after her stroke. Percy was a rock for his many friends and his family. He was adventurous, a storyteller, and described by many as their best friend. He could be trusted to always show up, no matter what the need… physical labour or a big hug.
In lieu of flowers, Percy’s family welcomes messages sharing stories of his life well lived. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Dear Shannon, I am so sorry to hear about your dads death. He was a great guy, so devoted to your Mom and so proud of you. I know all your memories will help give you comfort. You are in my prayers.
Shannon & family: My Dad Ted Taylor talked about teasing you when you were young. My Dad was very sad when your Mom went to the care home. I worked with your Dad at the RCMP office in the early nineties. He was a great guy! Take care and my sympathies.
Dear Shannon and Family,
We are so sorry to hear about Percy, our long time friend and neighbour. We will remember him fondly and will always miss both of our friends from 999. Our thoughts are with you. Michele and Ian
