We Remember
HOFFMAN, Edward John
June 22, 1937 — February 27, 2022
With great heartache, we announce the passing of Edward John Hoffman at the age of 84. He is survived by Rose, his loving wife of 60 years; daughters Teri (David) Christopher and Jacki (Greg) Zehner; and grandchildren Sean (fiancée Vladana) and Megan Christopher, Matthew and Allie Zehner. Ed was one of 9 children and is survived by two younger siblings, Lionel Hoffman and Lee Chapman and numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Melville, Saskatchewan, Ed moved to Kelowna with his family in 1948. He enjoyed playing fastball, hockey and golf and made lifelong friends. The tv was always on a sports channel full blast, and he loved nothing more than to talk to his sons-in-law and grandchildren about scores and bonehead plays. He managed Coopers supermarket, Rutland, before founding 4-Way Food Market which he operated for many years. He then became a realtor. In “retirement”, he found his life’s calling as an orchardist. Over the course of 23 years, he transformed the 32-acre Glenmore property into one of the most beautiful, park-like orchards, growing cherries, peaches, apples and pears. Passersby were likely to see Ed making his rounds on his John Deere gator. Many fun times were had with the Tim Hortons gang.
A Memorial Service will be held on FRIDAY, MARCH 4, 2022, AT 1:00 PM (PST), AT SPRINGFIELD FUNERAL HOME, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna, BC, with a reception to follow. The service will be Livestreamed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
Sincere thanks to Michele and the many other hardworking nurses on 3West at Kelowna General Hospital, where Ed spent the last few days of his life after an extended hospital stay. He passed knowing he was deeply loved and valued, with his beloved Rose and daughters at his side.

With our deepest sympathy in the passing of Ed. He was a well liked man and he will be missed for sure. May you find the love and comfort at this time of loss.
Oh Rose I was so saddened to hear of Ed’s passing. I have so many fond memories of both of you at Tim Hortons. You will both always be treasures in my heart.
On behalf of myself and my mom Kaye, and the rest of my family, our condolences. Ed hired me at Coopers back in 1980, and I’m still in the business for almost 42 years. Ed was bigger than life, and a great manager. Enjoyed playing golf with him and my dad once as well. Rest In Peace.
We are heartbroken to hear of Ed’s passing. Sending our condolences, love and hugs to all. ❤️❤️❤️
Dear Jacki, my condolences to you and your family. May all the wonderful memories you have of him support your during this time of loss and grief.

Aunt Rose, Teri and Jacki, we are so sorry for your loss. We wish you peace and comfort as you grieve and hope your days and nights can be filled with happy memories.
Rose, Teri, Jacki, and Family members,
At this time, we are trying to fathom the depth of your loss and grief. We hope that cherished family memories will comfort you in this most difficult time. We also share your grief and sorrow because Rose, you and Ed, are our dear friends. Many years ago when we came to live in Kelowna, you and Ed welcomed us into your home, into your social network, and most especially into your hearts. Since then, we have shared jokes, played board games, watched sports, discussed politics, eaten delicious meals, celebrated special milestones, and of course, enjoyed choice fresh fruit from the Hoffman Orchard. We will really miss our dear friend Ed. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to have shared so many great and joyous times together. Dear friend, you will live on in our hearts.
With love and deepest sympathy.
Shirl and Tom
So sorry to hear of Ed’s passing. Ed and Rose came into my life when I rented the cottage on the orchard for 5 years. I fondly remember our banter over the watering schedule for the cherry trees. I had many conversations with Ed sitting on his John Deer Gator all over the property. and I remember teasing him when a leaf fell on the ground. He was so meticulous on the upkeep of the orchard. His passion and love for Rose was clearly evident and Ed thought he was the boss but we all know it was Rose.. I can’t say enough about Ed and Rose and their love and caring for family and friends. The world lost an amazing gentleman with Ed’s passing.
We heard of Ed’s passing and wanted to share our deepest sympathies with all of the family who are grieving his loss. The picture of him in his orchard is wonderful and reminded me that what we “plant” during our lives defines us and, over time, will replace us. I hope that you will find comfort in treasuring his memory and seeing his spirit live on in the family, friendships, community and landscapes he nurtured.
All our Love,
Dear Rose & Family~~Our Sincere Condolences. Eldon & Liz (another John Deere man). Keep Well and Keep Up.
You always inspired me Ed. It was my absolute pleasure to spend time with the true charactor you have always been. You work ethic was uncompromising yet you always treated everyone fairly. I’ll miss you pal.
My prayers are with dear Rose and family.

So sorry for your loss Rose. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Rose, Teri and Jackie,
I wanted to write and let you know that you and your families are in our prayers during this difficult time. I will never forget my time with Ed. Our trip to Vancouver to watch our beloved Montreal Canadians. The countless coffee breaks. The smile, the chuckle, and of course, the sense of humor. We realize that there are no words that we could write or say to make things better, but please accept our sincere condolences.
Dear Rose, Jacki and Family and Terry and Family, Our Sincere condolences to you all.
I am so sorry for your loss. I remember Ed well every time I would visit Jacki at your home during our high school years. He was such a wonderful and affectionate father and a wonderful person who will be greatly missed.
Sincerely, Evalina and Robert
Auntie Rose, Teri, Jacki and family. I have been reflecting on the many memories I have of Uncle Ed. There are many and I will share a few. He certainly had a big influence on me. We became more than uncle and nephew. He bought me my first baseball glove when I was about 12 which was a real beauty and I used it for many years. He hired me at Coopers in 1977. We shared a love of sports and played plenty of golf and hockey together (hockey on the Coopers hockey team and on Friday nights in Winfield with Ernie, Ray, Art, Wilf and Ken). So much fun! Ed took Ken and I to our first NHL game to see the Canucks play the NY Rangers and that was my first time travelling on an airplane. We went to a Grey Cup game together staying at the hotel where Teri was working at the time, in downtown Vancouver. We went to see Gretzky play the Canucks when he was with the LA Kings. Ed loaned me his truck and camper and Jerry Guthrie and I went on a road trip into the USA. We were having a blast until I drove to an A&W with the roof vent up. The vent caught the canopy and mad a terrible loud sound. I was rattled and backed right up only to tear it right off roof. I paid to have it professionally repaired once back in Kelowna. I was too embarrassed to tell Uncle Ed what had happened. When I went into real estate, Ed was very supportive. He loaned me his station wagon which I drove for the first 2 or 3 months that I was licensed as an agent. We were very close. Many fellow golfers at Kelowna Golf and Country Club would ask me if I was playing with my dad and I would say no, I was playing with my uncle. We had many fun matches against Stoney and Mac. Ed made a very nice speech at Cindy and I’s wedding. We enjoyed many trips together to Las Vegas. Ed was the best slot player I have ever witnessed. Not only have we lost an influential member of our family but Tim Horton’s has lost their most loyal customer. Rest in peace Uncle Ed.
Love Gord and Cindy
Dear Auntie Rose, Teri, Jacki and families,
Deepest sympathies on Uncle Ed’s passing. The service was so beautiful, and a testament to the love of your family. The video and photos were a joy to watch. . As you move forward remembering all of your cherished times together rest assured that he has been warmly welcomed to the other side by his many brothers. Much love to all 💖
It was a joy to watch such a beautiful service in honor of Ed. Thank you for streaming the service. He was so loved by his family and friends. Jacki, Teri, Sean and Greg conveyed that very well. Love, Dorothy
What a beautiful send off for Ed. The opening video was filled with the smiling faces I remember so well that I can hear our laughter from all my good memories of time spent with the Hoffman family. Greg, Teri, Jackie, Sean and Allie celebrated Ed’s life in such a vibrant, loving and humourous way. I would like to share Michael’s text with you albeit somewhat edited:
“All everyone needs to do is celebrate a great man that did lots of good things! Super successful daughters and grandchildren. And he was a super cool son of a gun!”
Both our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Much love, Colleen and Michael
Dear Rose, Teri (David, Sean, Megan) and Jacki (Greg, Matthew, Allie), our sincerest condolences to all of you. Ed or Mr. Hoffman as I knew him was a one of a kind. Although you will miss him dearly your memories will last forever. Hugs and prayers to you all.
With love,
