Survived by brother Don Mattern and wife Isabell, children Wayne (Mairi), Brad (Dawne) and Mark (Meg), grandson Steve (Amanda) and great-granddaughter Cassidy.
The family would like to give special thanks to the Doctors and staff at both Kelowna General Hospital and Brookhaven Care Home for all the care and attention given to Dorothy during her final days.
As per Dorothy’s wishes there will be only a small private ceremony.

I am sorry to read of your moms passing. She was a remarkable lady and I will always remember my many lengthly chats with her!
Thank-you Colleen, no matter how busy things were, you always had the time to let Mom give you advice on how to manage her finances.
Brad
Thanks Brad for advising us of your Mom’s passing. My sisters and I were talking about her in the car on our way to Vancouver on Monday. She was a great friend to our mother Mary, who died 3 years ago. If there is an after life, those two will have some catching up to do. You will all surely miss her. The great thing about Dorothy was she always had an opinion on whatever subject was up for discussion and, as we all know, she had the “gift of the gab”. She had a long life and it sounds like her final chapter was peaceful. Please pass on my condolences to the other family members. Tim Seipp
Tim,
Thank-you for your kind words. We were like one big family on French Street. Mom is again with Dad, probably looking at some handy work he thinks he’s finished saying “I guess that’s supposed to look like that, huh”.
Thank-you again,
Brad
Dear Wayne, Brad, Mark and Family,
Your mom was like a second mom to me and I will always cherish her kind, generous heart. If you do have a gathering in remembrance, I would love to pay my respects and share some memories, especially of rides in the Hillman to Lumberman’s Arch for swimming lessons.
Kathy
Kathy,
Thank-you for your kind word. I do remember those rides in the 2-tone Hillman to swimming lessons in Stanley Park. Thank-you as well for bringing your Mom to Dorothy’s 80th birthday party, it was the highlight of the evening for her and us to see them together again.
Take care,
Brad
DEAR DO & ISABELL, MARK & MEG, BRAD & DAWNE, WAYNE & MAIRI,
BRUCE & I SEND OUR PRAYERS & WARM THOUGHTS TO YOU ALL.
I AM SURE DOROTHY IS REJOICING BEING WITH RALPH AGAIN.
GLAD TO HAVE HAD THE CHANCE TO HOLD HER HAND & SHARE A LAST GOODBYE TO A GREAT LADY.
MUCH LOVE ! BRUCE & SHARON
Bruce and Sharon,
Mom always looked forward to coming over to your house. You always made her, and us, feel welcome and right at home.
Take care and I hope we see you soon.
Brad
Dear Wayne, Brad, Mark and Family,
I too will cherish many fond memories of the time spent with your wonderful mom. Her willingness to volunteer her time for anything I needed….she was always there for me unconditionally. I never would have learned to knit without her expert help and patience. Many hours spent knitting and ‘snitting’!
She will be in my heart forever as my ‘second’ Mom.
Sheila
Sheila,
Knitting and ‘snitting’, that’s what our Dad used to say too. The more of a snit she was in, the tighter she would knit, having to rip everything out and start again when calmer…. I miss those days…
Brad

For Dorothy:
A relative newcomer, I married Don almost four years ago and met Dorothy two years earlier. A lady with a strong personality, it took more than the first day to discover the jewel. We found our way. We enjoyed the horses, browsing at Lee Valley
Tools, a D.Q. treat. Mark’s wedding was the cement. Too few subsequent visits leaves me feeling lonely but grateful for what I had…too short but now forever sweet.
Isabelle,
It was so comforting to have you with us the last week with Mom. She often spoke of how she enjoyed her time with you and Uncle Donald. Thank-you for being with us and Mom when we all needed each other the most.
Brad
Dear Wayne, Brad & Mark
Mary & I were very sad to hear of your Mom’s passing.
She was the last link to French Street other than “the kids”.
Please know our thoughts are with you all.
Linda,
Thank-you for your thoughts and condolences. Reading through some of the entries here brings back those happy, simpler times of life on French St.
Take care,
Brad
Dorothy’s family – I especially remember Dorothy when we lived at Sandpointe, she took part with the ladies in “Craft and Chat”, I, and others have some very fond memories of her, her talent, humour, her story telling, she was a joy to be with. We are very sorry for your loss, our deepest sympathy to the family. Ann and Jim
Ann and Jim,
Mom and Dad enjoyed their time at Sandpointe very much, mostly due to the people they became friends with there. Thank-you for thinking of Mom and us at this time.
Take care,
Brad
