It is with sadness that we announce the passing at Kelowna Hospice House of our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Irene Holland (April 15, 1925 – September 27, 2017). Predeceased by her husband Joseph (1975), survived by her son, John (Hilda), daughter, Mary Ellen, grandchildren, Joanna (Chad), Jonathan, Kris (Lori-Ann), and great grandson Edison.
Special thanks and gratitude to the staff and nurses at Kelowna Hospice House, to Deep from Home First, to Interior Health Home Care, to Laurie and Erica at Independent Pharmacy, to Healthy at Home (Michael, Kim, & Leeanne), to hospitalists Dr. Jack Loken and Dr. Jonathan Price, and the nurses on KGH/4B, and to her personal physician Dr. Derek Adam for years of caring support.
“[She’s] been up and down and over and out/ [But we know]one thing/ Each time she found herself layin’ flat on her face/ She just picked herself up and got back in the race.”
There will be no funeral service, but in lieu of flowers a donation in her memory can be made to Central Okanagan Hospice Association. http://www.hospicecoha.org/donate-coha

To Mary Ellen, her brother John and all the Holland family. I have been thinking of all of you this week, and hope that the grieving process has been warm and healing. What a great family you are, and what a great life your mother lived, and how lucky for her, too, to have raised such fine children who adored her. I only know of these things because of all the wonderful stories Mary Ellen has told me over the years, and also, some of the parallels I sensed in our childhoods and parents. We’re all from the same times & cultures, and my heart goes out to you. Sincerely, John Lent
