Gale, Jenny, Jacqueline, John and family,
We are so very sorry to hear of “Stubby’s” passing. He was both a mentor and dear friend and I am truly privileged to have shared some wonderful memories and good times with him at Conair. He will fly with me always. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Thank you for the picture and your words of memories of Stuart – I hope with time memories will be easier – Gale
Gale, Jacquie, John, Jenny and to your families –
The passing of your husband and father gave cause for much reflection about some phenomenally mischievous stunts flying from Castlegar over many summers in the 70’s and 80’s. Clothes up flag poles, cars on blocks, soup with work socks added for “flavour” and chicken parts and curry in many unknown places in vehicles. Live chickens in lockers ad infinitum. Too many funny memories to count. Photographic evidence abounds but alas all still on slides, if not on some 8 mm film in an attic somewhere!
Few if any pilots were able to fly all the “Century” series of jets in the R.C.A.F. and he was one of the few.
We wish Stubby well as his mortal remains rest in peace – his spirit will now be free to head to the great hangar above where he can once again soar aloft and swap stories with the many friends and aviators that have passed before him.
God speed old friend!
To his family, be happy that he is now in a better place. God bless you all. Keep smiling as you remember him.
Hugs

Stuart: There were many good in depth conversations over the years that certainly allowed me to see things from a different perspective. You were thought provoking and always good for a stimulating discussion. you will be missed by your children and Gale as well as your grand daughters, Mackenzie and Kaelin. You are now comfortable, at peace, and have moved onto a better place for which we are all gratefull. Michael Mackenzie and Kaelin Fleming
Thank you for your thoughts of Stuart and yes I do miss him terribly – also I have many fond memories of you and those lovely children – Gale
We have lost a man who had a great confidence that life was sacred and not to be trivialized. Many an evening spent listening to Stubby expounding on the ideas and merits of such as C. S. Lewis and others revealed the mind of a man of deep faith. It was always a pleasure listening to Stubby’s views. It was also a pleasure working with a man who was a fine pilot, excellent sportsman – particularly tennis, and companion back in the days when tanker base life was fun. One had to be on constant guard for the inevitable practical joke with Stubby always somehow lurking in th background. We have lost a good man.
Our thoughts are with Gale and the Holmes family.
John and Marcelle Truran

Thank you so much – I find much comfort in your remembering Stuart/Stubby – I do miss him terribly – Gale
From memories of those care-free days at Keswick School to our last war-time reunion in 1995, Stubby has always been that “never to be forgotten” character that we still fondly remember. I send deepest sympathy to Gale and the extended family.
Betty Stuart (nee Hill)
Thank you so much Betty for your words of comfort – I do remember you with fondness – Gale
Thanks to all of you who attended the memorial service in person and in spirit. He will forever be missed but not ever forgotten. Memories and stories will live on and on.
Daughter Jacqueline
To Jenny, Jacqueline & John,
I was sad to hear of the loss of your Dad. As you can imagine I have many memories of “Stubbie”, especially as a troublesome teenager growing up in Peachland! I will always picture him, striding through the living room with classical music blasting through the house.
Jenny, as an old friend, I wish you many good memories of your father. My Mum died 3 years ago and it is always hard. Thinking of you … and sending my love … Kathy MacNeill
