We Remember

HORNSBERGER, Frank

Frank went to join his love Helen in September of 2013 at the age of 92. He is survived by his loving family; brother Henry (Jean) Hornsberger of Prince George, BC; sister Ester Stobbs of Burnaby, BC; and many nieces and nephews. Frank is sadly predeceased by his wife, Helen. Frank was born on November 25, 1920 in Regina, SK. He lived in the Qu’ Appelle Valley until age 17, and then in 1937 moved with his family to Kelowna. Frank joined the BC Dragoons in 1940. He was a driver and mechanic in the Tank Corp., and he served in North Africa, Italy, France, and the Netherlands (Europe). Twice wounded in action but he returned to active duty each time. Frank was discharged in 1946. He met Helen Tree at a St. Valentine’s Day dance in February 1946 and the two were married on May 1, 1946. Frank pursued his love of mechanics in the subsequent years. He owned a garage, drove/maintained logging trucks, worked in garages in Duncan, Abbottsford and Elliot Lake, but worked principally in Ford Motor Auto Centres. Ford Motors told Frank when he retired that he was their best diagnostic mechanic in Canada. Frank and Helen loved to travel and toured North America in RVs, and later in their Lincoln (which he prized). Their favourite areas were their drives down the Pacific Coast, and trips into the deep Zion and Grand canyons. Frank enjoyed good jokes, humorous stories and regaled his family with his wit and humour. Frank lost Helen in 2006, but his love for her was endless. Frank was a vital part of his extended family and will be deeply missed by all of them.
