We Remember

HOSKINS, Shirley Hilda

January 4, 1925 — October 17, 2019

We are so sad to say goodbye to our wonderful loving Mother of 95 who passed away peacefully at Brandt’s Creek Mew. Shirley Hilda Thomson was born in Regina, Saskatchewan in 1925 and moved to Kelowna in 1945 where she met her hockey player Frank Hoskins and they married in 1950. Shirley was predeceased by her husband Frank and her brother Peter Thomson. She is survived by her brother Robert Thomson, 4 children….2 sons Rick(Karen), Brent(Raymond)… 2 daughters Brenda von Niessen(Bill), Karen Zayonce(Rick)…6 grandchildren; Brandon von Niessen(Brady), Jami Joinson(Dan), Lee Zayonce(Jen), Robyn Zayonce(Darcy), Alysha Hoskins(Mark), and Crystal Hoskins(Travis)…4 great grandchildren; Lyla and Daxton Joinson and Macey and Knox von Niessen.

Shirley’s family was the love of her life and we seldom missed our Friday Family night dinners which she truly cherished. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were so very precious in her eyes and Mom was fortunate to have met them all. To everyone that knew Mom, her home was always open, day or night, for a place to relax, sleep, party, a meal, or whatever one needed, and everyone was always welcome. Many called her their second Mom and she was truly the best Mom anyone could ask for. Her passions well into her 80’s was swimming, her flowers and plants, taking pictures (as we all know) and emailing pictures to many on her computer that she also managed to learn at 80.

We would like to send a special thanks to the entire staff at Brandt’s Creek Mews for the kindness, compassion and dedication to Mom.

A Celebration of Life for Mom will be held later in the summer at her sons home (Rick and Karen). A reminder will be sent out later in the spring with dates and details.

If you wish to send a condolence, post photos or share a memory, please scroll down the page to the area called “Condolences”.
