We Remember

HRISCHUK, Helen

April 1929 – May 2026

We are saddened to announce the passing of Helen. The family enjoyed a lovely birthday celebration with Helen in early April, and we lost her a few weeks later when she passed peacefully and naturally in the early morning hours of May Day.

Helen was born, along with her twin sister Lucy, on a farm in the Kootenays and she remembered, as a child, helping to feed people who were homeless and without food in the Great Depression. She always cared about helping others. In 1949, while visiting friends in Kelowna, Helen met her future husband, Alex, at the Regatta. After a year of courtship, they married and settled in Alex’s hometown Kelowna where they lived the rest of their lives. They were involved with community events and they made many lifelong friends. Their careers were totally in the orchard industry and fruit packing, where Alex was in management and Helen worked seasonally.

Helen enjoyed cooking for and visiting with family and friends, the outdoors and gardening, sports, music, and travel. She was entertaining and humorous. When Alex passed in 1993, she particularly liked cruising, with her daughters, to tropical locales as well as vacationing in sun spots including Jamaica and Hawaii. Helen was a ‘people person’ and she loved meeting the locals of various places.

Predeceased by husband Alex, daughter Darcie, siblings sisters and a brother, Helen is survived by daughters Louise and Cheryl (Rick), grandchildren Amanda, Jerrod, and Dana, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She will be missed by the many people she met along the way, and may God bless her journey onward. Thanks to nurses, doctor, staff, residents, and visitors at her final lovely home, Mission Creek Landing. A family gathering will be held at a later date.
