We Remember

HUDSON, Gordon Edmund
August 5, 1942 — October 19, 2024
With great sadness we announce the passing of Gordon “Gord” Hudson, a brother, uncle, great-uncle, and friend to so many. Gord passed away peacefully at Brandt’s Creek Mews on October 19, 2024.
Gord was born in Vancouver, BC on August 5, 1942, as the firstborn to Frank and Betty Hudson. A few years after, the family grew when his sister Jean and brother David arrived. Gord’s parents grew the family again when Linda was adopted.
The Hudson’s lived in the Marpole area of Vancouver. As a youngster, Gordon spent a lot of time on his grandparent’s farm in Mount Lehman. His love for agriculture grew there. After graduating from high school, Gord completed an apprenticeship in horticulture.
He worked tending gardens in Vancouver for a brief time but wanted more. Gord decided to attend the University of Victoria to study to be a teacher, and later he completed a Master’s Degree in Counselling.
Gordon’s life was coloured by sports. He started coaching early. While still a teenager, he coached soccer and baseball. Gord added volleyball to his mix. He was known to some as “Mr. Volleyball”. Two highlights for Gord in sports were, officiating Volleyball at the 1976 Olympics and playing baseball with his heroes from the Detroit Tigers at a fantasy baseball camp. His skill as a volleyball coach was a reason for him being invited to join the staff at George Elliot Secondary School. He made Winfield, BC his home for five decades.
Yes, he loved sports, but Gord’s real passion was to help people. He was a help and encouragement to many students on and off the court. Never marrying, some of his students and former students, became like his family.
Gordon was good at making friends. He had many adventures, travelling the world with friends and to visit friends.
Gord’s journeys were many. His faith journey began early with his exposure to a Christian organization called Young Life and friends who were leaders there. His friends connected him to church and organizations like the Salvation Army. In his later years, you could find Gord volunteering in the kitchens of Trinity Church, Willow Park Church, and the Salvation Army in Kelowna, BC.
Gordon Hudson was predeceased by his father Frank, mother Betty, sister Linda, and nephew Kevin. He is survived by his bother David (Lynn), sister Jean, nephew Cory, nieces Jackie & Beth, along with grandnieces and grandnephews.
We would like to thank the caregivers who helped Gordon in his later years. A special thanks goes out to the staff at Brandt’s Creek Mews, for the love and compassion that you showed to Gord.
Gord, we are confident that you are in a better place now.

Dear David, Lynn, Jean and Family,
Gordon will be deeply missed. Our friendship started when he was my grade 8 teacher. Who knew back then that it would grow over the decades. Gordon has been a encouragement to many I know and many more I am sure. He was quick to laugh and quick to help. He is now at Peace.
I remember how amazing and patient God was and how we could go into his office at school and he was always door open. He was a very kind gentle soul and will be missed greatly. I moved to Vancouver shortly after graduation and I ran into him down here one day and it was so heartwarming and he remembered me. I also remember how much he loved to cook. I will be in attendance if that’s okay for the memorial
Gordon or as we called him Mr.Hudson was there for me for many years I had struggles and he helped me through alot being a sassy smartass in highschool or at least tried to be and he always had that funny laugh or jokes at least unless you had been in trouble then you would see a stern side.Ill never forget you Mr.Hudson you ment alot to me and helped change my life.My condolences to your family.
Gord was our taxi driver when we were growing up in South Vancouver in the 60’s. He was the first one of us to get a car. He always wanted to practice jiving in our living room and I was the one who always seem to be around so I got to learn how to dance as well. Gord was instrumental in helping me get my first dog which was a Sheltie. He would drive me once a week for six weeks to obedience classes when the pup was old enough. I was also the one who would throw the cricket ball so he could practice on the front lawn. Once Gord moved to the Okanagan sometimes we would get a box of his apples which didn’ t Iast very long. They were so good. I didn’t see him very much as he was busy with teaching , coaching and travelling, but we kept in touch. Gord will be in good company being buried with our Grandmother and my son in Mt. Lehman and when it’s my turn I will also be there. I am taking care of Josie for you Gord and she is doing great. RIP Gord! Jeannie
Dear family & friends of Mr Gordon Hudson – such a good person and counsellor . Both our children attended George Elliott high school. He was there for us thru some of the saddest times with words of wisdom and guidance! He would stop by for tea and visits. After moving away from the Okanagan we connected during vacation- however, had not seen him for the past few years. This was sad news to receive but I so believe he is in a much better place. Deepest sympathy and understanding- take good care 🙏🌹. Beverly Simla Red Deer,AB
I worked with Gordon at the Store Front School where his understanding of and compassion for students was known and appreciated.. He continued to be a friend, often guiding and helping us with our trees. A very knowledgeable man. Sorry to learn of his passing..
