We Remember
HUDSON, James (Jim)
—
Passed away October 14, 2015 after “ninety wonderful year .” Survived by Alice his loving wife of 68 years and son Daryl (Kathleen) of Redwood Valley, California, Gary (Gloria) of Salmon Arm. Grandchildren Heather (Almir) Sehic, James (Zoe) Hudson, Melissa (Nicholas) Roels, and Bradley Hudson. Great grandchildren Addisyn and Aubree Roels. Brother Harry (Emily) of Duncan.
Jim was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on May 22, 1925. On his nineteenth birthday he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and became a Sargeant and Air Gunner. Upon completion of service he moved to Kelowna, where on a blind date, he met Alice who became the love of his life for sixty eight years. Jim was employed with the City of Kelowna for twenty five years in various capacities including City Clerk. They then moved to Burnaby where he served as City Clerk for ten years. Upon retirement they moved back to Kelowna where he greatly enjoyed gardening, painting, puttering, and talking to everyone that passed by. Jim insisted that there be some humour in his obituary. Jim was never given a middle name. He often joked about it saying that “his parents were so poor that they couldn’t afford to buy him one.”
We would like to thank Dr. Howard Davidson and all the caring and compassionate people on both the HCCA Home Care Nursing Team and at the Central Okanagan Hospice House.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 19, 2015 at 10.00 am in the chapel at Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road Kelowna. Interment to follow in the Field of Honour, Lakeview Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #26 Poppy Fund (in memory of James Hudson) 1380 Bertram St., Kelowna, B.C., V1Y 2G1.

We are deeply saddened by the loss our our Great Neighbor Jim.
Jim was alway upbeat, quick with a smile, a joke, a can of paint and praise for his loving wife Alice.
We will miss him.
Our sincere condolences to Alice and family. We had many delightful chats on the sidewalk with Jim. We are privileged to have been neighbors and to have enjoyed his delicious cucumbers. He will be missed.
Saddened to hear of Jim’s (as I called him Mr. Hudson) passing. I worked in City Clerk’s at Burnaby with Mr. Hudson until his retirement. I have great work memories and the fun times we had working with him. He was always the first one at work and always welcomed us with a warm good morning for us each day. And he had some jokes along the way as well. Alice and family may the memories bring you comfort and help you though these sad days. Jim will be missed.
Mr. Hudson hired me to work in the Burnaby City Clerks Department over 37 years ago. He served as my mentor and role model when I was at a young and impressionable age. I carried his strong work ethic with me over my entire career and retired 2 years ago as Burnabys City Clerk. I will always be thankful that we crossed paths and trust that he has had a good life since his retirement from Burnaby many years ago. My condolences to his wife, Alice and two sons, all of which he always spoke very highly of. Rest in peace, Mr. Hudson.
Jim was one of the most genuine neighbors we had the honor to know. I see that Duncan and Lynda Watson, the couple that bought our home next to Jim and Alice, had the pleasure of having the same experience as we did. I have thought of Jim and Alice many times since we moved, and had the pleasure on a few occasions to run into Jim a few times since we moved away. He had a kind smile and gentle disposition and a quick wit. Please accept our most sincere sympathies Alice and may you draw comfort from your family now. Jim was proud of all of you and that was ever apparent during our discussions with him.
