We Remember

HUI, Hung Chiu
—
Hung Hui passed away on March 30, 2025, at his home in Kelowna, BC, at the age of 98. Born in 1927, in Hoi Ping, China, Hung lived through a remarkable century and the difference of life from his youth to his 90s, from nation to nation has been nothing short of extraordinary. His journey spanned decades of change, bridging cultures and continents.
Hung was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather. In his final years, Hung found joy in the simple things. He loved reading history books and newspapers, staying engaged with the world around him. He enjoyed watching sports, such as hockey; the cooking channel; and The Price Is Right. Cooking remained a favourite pastime, filling his home with familiar and comforting flavours. And always, throughout his life, he treasured spending time with family.
The memory of Hung will be carried by his children Victor (Chun), Elaine (Ken), Pauline (Richard), and Garlon, and his numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sadly, he was predeceased by his beloved wife, Sau King Hui, and his brother, Wing Kai Hui.

It’s with sadness that I learned of the passing of my grandfather, Gong Gong. While we were distanced by land, I will always remember him as a kind, gentle, and funny man. You will be missed and we shall remain strong in these times of grief.
My deepest sympathy and condolences for your loss Jeff, Jenn and family. Your grandpa was a kind man who always had a smile. He would always offer food to eat that showed his kindness, I’m sure at times he wasn’t even sure who I was. I must of been a strange to him but he still offered me food with a smile. I will always remember him. Jeff you took such good care of your grandpa my heart is broken for your loss and the emptiness you might feel now. May the love of god comfort you Jeff, Jenn and family at this difficult time.
May Grandpa memory be a blessing.
