On December 20, 2023, in Kelowna, BC, Dr. Rajul Iyer passed away peacefully at the age of 93.
She is survived by children Nitya (Robert Grant), Akhil (Maria José Modelo); grandchildren Priya Grant, Kali Iyer, and Alex Iyer; great-grandchildren Alden, and Neve. She was predeceased by her loving husband Dr. Venkatram Iyer (d. 2007).
Rajul was born on January 14, 1930, in Mumbai, India. She was an active seeker of knowledge, a life-long learner, a scientist, and a professor. Above all, she was a wife and mother, creating a loving home for her husband and children. She was an animal lover, an avid reader and gardener, and a generous supporter of charities and humanitarian causes. Her creative and artistic talents were poured into her photography and art which she developed greatly upon moving to Kelowna from Ottawa in 1996. She played pool and golf and made many close friends indulging in her love of these games. Rajul lived a long life full of exploration, creativity, and love. She overcame the many challenges of immigrating to a new country, Canada in 1961 and became highly successful in her professional and personal life. She was a courageous and beautiful person who cared deeply about others and the world we live in.
At Rajul’s request, a service will not be held. Her family wishes to thank the many friends who supported and reached out to her during her final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kelowna SPCA.

Rajul and I met ten years ago ‘over the pool table’ at the seniors centre. our friendship grew and we shared and supported and encouraged and challenged each other. I am going to miss my fiend.
To Rajul’s family: May she be in peace now, and may you find comfort in the fact that she is now with her beloved husband. We all now have to learn to live with the love she leaves behind.
I was fortunate to meet Rahul at Kelowna Art Gallery through a mutual enthusiasm at a particular exhibit. I was impressed with her photography, her recommendation of books to read and her gentle intelligence. Judy Kent
I first met Rajul many years ago through a group called The Seekers. As always, she was in search of knowledge and she especially sought information about the spiritual realms. She was a highly intellectual and spiritual person and I will miss our conversations greatly. How often I just dropped by and was always welcomed with a smile and an embrace. The attached photo is of my first book launch. Rajul designed the cover.
Rajul and I met in 2008, shortly after she and I both lost our significant others. We enjoyed our visits together, discussing our losses, day to day topics and the books she was devouring one after the other. Once we enjoyed a short but pretty walk along the creek to Hardy Falls in Peachland. I will miss her and always remember her kind heart, love of nature and insatiable hunger for knowledge.
With my sincere condolences to Nitia and Akhil and to the whole family. May she rest in peace.
