JASCHKE, Marie
October 10, 1924 — January 4, 2017
Marie Jaschke (nee Jani) of Kelowna (formerly of Berwyn, Alberta), beloved wife of the late Hubert Jaschke, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at the age of 92 years in the Kelowna General Hospital. She is survived by her sons, William (Pat), and Kenneth (Stacy) and her daughter Lucille Jaschke; grandchildren Richard Boyko (Patty), Michael, Amanda Wiebe (Aaron) and Jennifer; and her great-grandchildren Andrew and Jenna Boyko. She was predeceased by her sisters Ann, Hilda and Millie and her brother Josef. She is survived by her brothers William and Otto.
Marie was born on October 10, 1924 and moved with her family from Neuberg, Burgenland, Austria in 1931 to settle on a farm in the Last Lake Region of the Peace River District of Alberta. In 1942 she married Hubert Jaschke and raised their family on a farm near Berwyn, Alberta. In 1970, they retired from the farm to move to the milder climate of Kelowna, B.C. Shortly after arriving, Marie started work at Peoples Food Market, staying for a decade before enjoying the remainder of her retirement in Kelowna.
The family would like to thank the staff at Cottonwoods Care Centre for the care offered to Marie during the final months of her stay. Special thanks are offered to Leona Markewich, who was a constant companion to Marie during her stay in Cottonwoods.
In honouring Marie’s request, no service will be held. In lieu of floral tributes, donations may be made in her name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation at #4 – 1551 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna, BC V1Y-9M9. My expression of sympathy on the loss of your mom. I know my parents thought highly of Hubert and Marie. They were good friends. ,I can just see them playing canasta.
