We Remember
JEFFREY, Roy (Our Uncle Roy)
December 31, 1917 — March 6, 2013
Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on December 31, 1917, Roy passed away peacefully at Cottonwoods Care Center on March 6, 2013, at the age of 95. At the time of his passing he was surrounded by his caregivers and special friends, Debbie Clarke and Karen Onyschuk. Roy is predeceased by his parents; his first wife, Vera Calvert Rutherford Jeffrey (Hamiota, Manitoba) and his second wife, Melanie Rutherford Cantin Jeffrey (Hamiota, Manitoba/Louisiana, USA).
Roy is survived by his immediate family, brother Alex Jeffrey of Saskatchewan; sister Magdalene Jeffrey of Ontario; sister-in-law Teddy Lloyd of Kelowna; three nieces/step-daughters: Paulette-Vann, Debbie (Terry) and Mona-Lisa (Buddy) who reside in the USA; as well as numerous nieces, grandnieces and grandnephews across Canada and the USA.
A long-time resident of Kelowna, Roy spent his early years in the Northwest Territories employed by the Hudson Bay Company. He used Morse Code back then and he continued practicing it on his kitchen table..…you would see his fingers tapping away. While in Kelowna, he worked for Thompson Accounting, Principal, and over the years he drove for Budget Rent-a-car. He continued to do income taxes for friends through the 2011 tax season. Roy moved to the Dorchester in 2005, where he resided until his passing. For those who touched his life at The Dorchester – our deepest thanks in appreciation.
To his closest friends in Kelowna: Julie Modien, Jim Biffard, Wayne and Lytta Steeves. Your friendship was important to him. He so looked forward to seeing and talking with each of you. Thank you for the extra care during the last few months of his life.
Our family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Kelowna General Hospital (5B), Cottonwoods Care Center and Dr. Paul Hart for the care and attention they gave to Roy. Our appreciation goes to Interior Health Home Support for the quality of care given to Roy during the past six months.

It is with a heavy heart I send my sincere condolenses on the passing of Roy Jeffries. He worked for my father Jim Mead for many many years, and was a great friend of my Dads. He will be sorely missed. I always called him Uncle Roy, due to his extreme friendship to my parents. Fly free Uncle Roy! You and my Dad will no doubt be back together as the great freinds you were.
Our deepest sympathy to the Jeffrey Family. Mr Jeffrey completed the entire families tax returns and business returns for many years in the early 70’s What a wonderful man and what a wonderful life he had. Louise Koch and the Lazic Family
I came to know Roy during his years at the Dorchester. His kind heart was infectious and I will miss his gentle smile, as I know the rest of the staff will as well. I will miss his morse code messages. Here’s one more for you Roy,
