We Remember
JELINIC, Ivan
June 20, 1932 — July 5, 2014
Ivan, our very special Dad, passed away suddenly at the Kelowna General Hospital ICU on July 5, 2014. He has joined our Mom, Nada Jelinic, who passed away last December after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Our parents were married for over 51 years.
Ivan recently celebrated his 82nd birthday. He was born in Kutjevo, Croatia to Dida Stipe and Baka Marta. He met our Mom in Zagreb, Croatia and emigrated to Terrace, B.C. in 1957 before settling in Kelowna in 1970.
Ivan was an exceptional heavy duty mechanic and could repair pretty much anything. As kids, we loved to go into his shop and marvel at all of his tools and equipment. Our Dad was humble and kind and had a way of making people feel special and welcome. He enjoyed playing bocce, cards, building and fixing things and meeting his friends for coffee almost every morning for many years.
Ivan is survived by his son, Gordan Jelinic of Ottawa, daughter Wendy Jelinic of Calgary, daughter Anita Donovan and son-in-law Gary (who our Dad would say was just like a son), of Canmore, sisters-in-law Mira and Danica of Zagreb, Croatia and his many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Ivan will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 11th at 10:30 am at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 839 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna, BC. Interment to follow in the Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions, if desired, can be made to the organization of the donor’s choice. If you wish to send a condolence, post photos or share a memory, please scroll down the page to the area called “Share Your Condolences.”
