We Remember

JOHNSON, Thelma Sigurlaug
September 3, 1920 — May 6, 2025
It is with great love and admiration that we announce the loss of Thelma S. Johnson, who passed away peacefully on May 6, 2025, at the amazing age of 104.
Thelma leaves behind a wealth of love, including her children Kjartan (Wanda) Johnson and Edith (Jim) Mosher; grandchildren Jason (Jayne), Ben (Erin), Angela (Dan), Anthony, and Janelle (Brenden); great-grandchildren Hadley, Mattias, and Cove; brother Ernest; and many more loving family members and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, Oli and Helga Olafson; her husband of 38 years, Kjartan Johnson; sisters Helga, Olivia, and Lilja; brother Stoney; daughter Lorene; and grandchildren Justin and Joel.
Thelma and Kjartan grew up on neighbouring farms in rural Manitoba. They moved to Victoria, BC in 1962, where Thelma worked at the Rest Haven Seventh-Day Adventist Hospital until it closed in 1978. They then move to Abbotsford, BC, where she worked in the Adventist Book Centre until she retired. Kjartan passed away in 1980. In her retirement, Thelma lived for a number of years with her daughter, Lorene, to help with the care of her children. She moved to Kelowna in 2005.
Thelma had a sharp mind and a calm, thoughtful presence that made people feel at ease. She was the kind of person you could count on—steady, reliable, and dependable. She loved to knit, crochet, and sew. Puzzles were her thing – crosswords, jigsaws, number games – you name it. She was a whiz at math. Thelma didn’t seek attention, but people remembered her for her kindness.
Family and friends will each honour Thelma in their own ways. No formal service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BC Cancer Society.

Kris & Wanda, Edith & Jim , & families;
My deepest smypathy on the loss of your mother and grandmother. She was a truly special person and a wonderful aunt to me. We had some interesting and enjoyable conversations when she phoned me on my birthday every year.. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
