We Remember
JONES, Melvin
March 27, 1931 — July 31, 2019
It is with a very heavy heart that we announce that Melvin Jones passed away suddenly on July 31, 2019 at the age of 88.
Mel was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia on March 27, 1931. He is lovingly remembered by his children Matthew of Kelowna, BC and Peggy O’Brien of White Rock, BC; Special companion, Evona Kitzke; brothers Cedric (Eleanor) and Ernest; sisters Phyllis, Myrtle, and Isabel of Sydney, NS; brother in-Law Ray Wald (Jean); sisters in-law Adeline Frey, Jose Frey, and Velma Fletcher; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mel was predeceased by Leona, his loving wife of 52 years, in 2007; his son-in-law Dan O’Brien; his parents John & Pearl; and his brother Don.
Mel lived a full life filled with many adventure travels, and a lot of camping, fishing, hunting, gardening, canning and playing cards.
Mel had an entrepreneurial career. After working for many years at Canfor in Grande Prairie, AB he made the decision to move his family to Kelowna, where he owned Corbin’s General Store, and then, onto the restaurant business, with the purchase of the Cavalier Restaurant. After a short retirement he moved to Mission, BC and purchased Panago Pizza Place. Mel entered retirement in 1989 and took particular joy in assisting and helping his children with their businesses.
Mel’s quiet manner spoke volumes about kindness, generosity & respect.
With the loss of Mel, a huge hole in the family and all those who loved him has been left. He so enjoyed his time and laughs with all of you.
A Celebration of Mel’s life will be held on Saturday, August 17 at 3:00 pm at the residence of 493 Harrop Ave, Kelowna, BC with a BBQ to follow.

Loved your Dad and his quiet manner. He also loved being in the company of all ages. He was a good listener and chaperone. I will miss him.
