We Remember

JOYCE, D’Arcy Anne

It is with sadness that we say goodbye to D’Arcy (Sneath) who passed away on January 12, 2022 at the age of 85. She is survived by her husband Murray, daughter Nancy and son Gordon (Lindsay), her grandchildren Wade, Keefer, Adele and Elisa and her great grandchildren Marley & Kamara. D’Arcy is predeceased by her two sisters Joan Warke and Mary Mahoney.

D’Arcy grew up in Regina and attended St Chad’s School for Girls, Central Collegiate High School and then attended the University of British Columbia where she dabbled in Home Economics, Nursing and Teaching, finally graduating and working in the Burnaby School District. She married Murray in 1958 in Regina and moved to Burnaby where she was a member of the first staff at Burnaby Central High School. In 1960 D’Arcy and Murray moved to Kelowna and she was an on-call teacher in Kelowna. In her spare time D’Arcy was a Brown Owl in the Girl Guide organization, a member of the Kelowna General Hospital Junior Auxiliary, and was Dr. Derek Royal’s original volunteer receptionist for many years when he started the Colposcopy Clinic at the Kelowna General Hospital. She was a member at the Kelowna Golf & Country Club for 60 years and was the Ladies Club Captain during that time, a member of the Board of Directors and a volunteer for all club tournaments in various roles as well as on the “Score Boards” for many years.

D’Arcy was an incredible wife to Murray and a wonderful and caring mother to Nancy and Gordon. Her love was unwavering to all and she never missed an opportunity to spend time with her family. And, despite her deathly fear of cats (well known to many who loved her), it was never passed on to her family!

The Joyce family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to the staff and volunteers at Orchard Manor at Hawthorne Retirement Community where she was given the best care that we could have asked for in her last year.
D’Arcy will be missed by her family, friends and extended family in the community.

A Celebration of Life will be scheduled in the future. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer Society, alzheimer.ca/bc or charity of your choice in D’Arcy’s name.

In loving memory,
Murray, Gordon and Nancy
