We Remember

KAISER, Evelyn

June 14, 1933 — February 11, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Evelyn Kaiser, who passed away peacefully on February 11, 2024.

Evelyn was born in 1933 in what was then Czechoslovakia, and along with her parents and siblings, became a refugee in 1945 at the end of WW2. Her family fled to Germany and established a new life. In Germany, she had 7 children and worked in banking. Evelyn immigrated to Canada in 1979 with her family and continued to work in the banking industry, later becoming a realtor. Evelyn then moved to the Okanagan and enjoyed a long career as a homemaker.

Never satisfied with the status quo, Evelyn always pursued new interests even in her later years. She learned piano, painting, quilting, running 5K races, and developed a passion for online shopping. She put her flair and style into everything she touched. Kaffee und Kuchen was an institution in her home. Friends and family always knew that 3:00 PM promised great conversation and delicious treats.

Evelyn was an incredible host, and enjoyed entertaining her large family at her home in the Okanagan. With her warm presence and grace, visitors were always made to feel like it was their home, too.

Left to treasure her memory are her six sons, Dietmar (Pat), Frank (Pamela), Matthias (Teri), Michael (Fiona), Christian (Jen), and Burkhard (Alisa); her brother, Gunther; sister, Elsie; 20 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

She now goes to join those who left before her, including her daughter, Gudrun; her partner of 39 years, Edward Trautman; sisters, Elenore and Helga; and brother, Lothar.

She will be dearly missed by Bernie and many relatives in Germany, along with the countless lives that she touched along her journey.

We would like to thank her caregivers/friends Manuella, Amy, and Lily, and special thanks to all the staff at Kelowna General Hospital and to the staff at the Kelowna Hospice House. Your compassion and care is appreciated beyond words.

In honour of Evelyn, there will be a Celebration of Life, to be announced at a later date.
