We Remember

KEMPF, Oskar
October 6, 1937 — May 21, 2025
Oskar Kempf passed away on May 21, 2025, at Kelowna General Hospital, Kelowna, BC. He was 87.
Born in Bessarabia on October 6, 1937, Oskar was the son of the late Robert & Else Kempf. He spent his early years helping on the family’s dairy farm after immigrating to Canada in the 1950s in search of opportunity and a new beginning.
In Canada, Oskar built a life defined by determination, practical skill, and a friendly smile. He worked as a carpenter and orchardist, earning respect for both his craftsmanship and his devotion to the land, especially his garden, where tomatoes were a long-time favourite.
He met Maureen on a blind date, and the two built a lasting partnership that spanned decades. Together, they raised four children. He is survived by Maureen; his children Kathy, Chris, and Roy; and his grandchildren Takara and Spencer. He was predeceased by his third son, Richard.
Oskar was a steady presence in his family’s life, a man who put others first and asked for little in return. He enjoyed a strong network of friends, and rarely missed a day of coffee and conversation with them. Known for getting along with everyone, he left an impression of kindness and dependability.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Oskar do so in their own quiet way, perhaps with a cup of coffee and a thought for a man who lived simply and well.
