KHOURY, Hazel T. (née Simon)
February 3, 1939 — July 29, 2023
Hazel passed away suddenly on July 29, 2023, at the Kelowna General Hospital in British Columbia.
Hazel is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Gabriel Robert Khoury; her son Robert William (Andrea) of Calgary, AB; and daughter Joanne Marie (Martin) of Kelowna, BC; as well as six grandchildren: Jeramie, Gabriel, Samuel, Alexander, William, and Chandler. She is also survived by her older brother Morgen Simon of Brisbane, Australia, and many nieces and nephews.
Hazel was born on February 3, 1939, in Durban, South Africa and immigrated to Canada in 1961. She has lived in four cities since then: Hamilton, ON; Montreal, QC; Calgary, AB; and Kelowna, BC. Her greatest joys in her life were her grandchildren and travelling the world with her husband. One of her many hobbies was playing the slot machines in different casinos and spending time with friends.

So very sad to hear of aunty’s Hazel’s passing. My mother Valerie and her were friends since school in Winklespruit south of Durban. They stayed friends throughout their lives until my mother’s passing 7 years ago. I have maintained communication with Hazel after my mother’s passing as I felt my mother would have liked that. A truly special lady who showed only kindness and support of others. I loved her no nonsense attitude…Have a coffee with Valerie Aunty Hazel and enjoy catching up with old friends and family who’ve gone before you.
Sending so much love to the family and friends who grieve. Love and kind wishes,
Catherine

Our deepest Condolences go to husband Gabriel, brother Morgan, daughter Jody and family and son Robert and family for the sad loss of Hazel, wife, sister, Mother and Grandmother.. Hazel will be sadly missed by so many.
We met Hazel and Gabriel in 1996 in Canmore and we fondly remember our many fun dinners and celebrations with them and their families..
We shared many laughs and many good times. Hazel we miss your laughter, your wit, your honesty and your friendship.
REST IN PEACE MY FRIEND…
My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this very sad time. Gaby, Jody, Robert, Morgan and families. It was with such a great shock that I learnt of Hazels passing. We have been the best and closest of friends for over 50 years from when we first started working together in the same company here in Durban, South Africa. We shared many happy and fun times together during this period She then left for Canada, but our friendship carried on and I was lucky enough to join her and Gaby in their home in Calgary for a wonderful holiday. Hazel and I jumped in the car and drove down to Las Vegas and then back up the west coast through the Rockies back home. It was such a special trip, which I will never forget, the laughter, the chatting and just being together discussing everything and anything I was very fortunate to see Hazel and Gaby here in Durban when their cruise ship docked for the day. We spent the most memorable time chatting and catching up on old times and I am so grateful that I got to say “Good Bye” Will miss the phonecalls, sometimes late at night, (with the time difference), which wasn’t important, when I would answer the phone and hear, “HI, how you doing” , like we had just chatted the day before. God bless, go well my friend until we meet again. Bev xx
SO sad to hear about Hazels passing, I had just recently talked to her about your World Cruise, sounded wonderful. She was a fun, kind, caring lady. Rest in peace dear Hazel, maybe there is a Casino up there for you to enjoy.. My heartfelt sympathies to you and your family . TAKE CARE AND God bless, Gloria Della Rocca
Dear Gabriel, Rob and Jody and grandchildren
We are so sorry for your loss and wishing you all our love throughout this grieving period and beyond. Aunty Hazel was one of our links to the Simon family – and after our father (her brother Daniel) passed, she always ensured to keep my mother – Alice and my sister – Linda and I as close as possible to that part of our family. She was warm and genuinely interested in our lives – our celebrations, the birth of our children, our travels, moving around the world, etc. She made a point of always phoning my mother for holidays and birthdays and opened the doors to her home to our friends as well.
it is comforting to know that she passed peacefully and surrounded by love.
Always remembered and in our hearts.
with love
Alice, Linda and Meryl
Gabriel and family. We are sorry to hear of the passing of Hazel. Cherish the memories you made together. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
