KING, Myrtle May (nee McPhail)
—
Passed away August 1, 2012 at the age of 101 years, with family at her side at Hardy View/Boundary Hospital, Grand Forks, BC. She is survived by her children: son Gordon Lloyd Clarke McPhail (Joan) of Grand Forks, BC and daughter Heather May Toner (Ethan) of West Kelowna, BC; her seven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and five great, great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Gordon Clarke McPhail and her second husband, Lloyd Robert King.
She lived her formative years in Alberta, where she married Gordon Clarke McPhail in 1930. In 1946, they settled in Greenwood, BC, where Clarke managed the Greenwood Mercantile/Red White Store. In 1953 they moved to Vancouver to purchase their own grocery store, then to Coquitlam to buy another store in 1954, where they remained until Clarke’s death in 1964. In 1966 she married Lloyd King a professional painter and settled in Mission, BC, where she enjoyed retirement to the fullest; travelling to England and Scotland enjoying her garden and rose beds. Her church and community were very important to her, where she joined the Mission Agricultural Fair and won many firsts’ for all her fancy work in crocheting, flowers and crafts. She had many awards to show for her efforts.
Myrtle was also a tireless volunteer, working with the Pleasant View Home in Mission. Her wonderful musical talents brought her to where she was a part of the Old Time Fiddler’s group and played for senior’s groups and churches. She became very involved with the Stroke Club after Lloyd suffered a mild stroke. This became a vital part of her life, even after Lloyd’s death. Myrtle moved to Grand Forks at the age of 96 to be closer to family. Her new home was Boundary Assisted Living, which she loved until moving into Hardy View in the Spring of 2011.
We would like to thank all of the staff in both Boundary Assisted Living and at Hardy View who made Mom’s life comfortable and for the wonderful care you’ve given her.
