We Remember
KITSCH, William Bruce
May 15, 1942 — April 19, 2026
William Bruce Kitsch lived a full life, defined by hard work, generosity and a steady sense of humor that revealed itself when you least expected it.
Born in Kelowna, British Columbia to Rudy and Pat Kitsch, Bruce grew up alongside his sister Leigh (of Vancouver) and brothers Ken and Drew who both predeceased him. From a young age, he worked alongside his father—first delivering fruit to the packing house. Then running daily milk deliveries—learning early the discipline and responsibility that would shape his life.
He attended Kelowna Secondary School and went on to the University of British Columbia, where he completed both his undergraduate degree and MBA. A dedicated athlete, he played hockey for UBC competing throughout his school years, carrying the same focus and endurance into everything he did.
At 15, he became a member of both the Kelowna Yacht Club and the Kelowna Golf Club-early signs that he understood both work and how to enjoy the ride. These communities remained part of his life for decades, as did the friendships formed within them.
After completing his MBA, Bruce began his career in civil construction, starting his first company building roads and bridges in remote parts of northern British Columbia—work that required grit, creativity and a willingness to go where others wouldn’t. In 1976, he married Esther and together they followed that instinct for adventure to the Caribbean, living from island to island before settling in Turks and Caicos for nearly a decade. It was a life that balanced ambition with experience and work with a well-earned sense of freedom.
He was not one for the spotlight, but those who knew him well appreciated his dry wit and well-timed one-liners. He believed that “life is like a jet engine—you get out what you put in” and lived accordingly. He also liked to say the only time he’d admit to “too much” was when directly asked, a line delivered with a subtle smile.
Through his actions more than his words, Bruce contributed to raising his children Kelsey and Trent as he taught them the value of hard work, the importance of kindness and how to build things alongside others that could shape the future. Trent, along with his wife Ria gave him two grandchildren, Knox and Paisley. Kelsey gave him three grandchildren, Sophie, Graeme and Sam—each of whom he was deeply proud of.
He had many friends, gathered over a lifetime of work, travel and shared experiences. He was someone who gave people the benefit of the doubt, who quietly showed up when it mattered, and who could be counted on—whether for a project, a problem or the occasional good time.
There are countless stories of ingenuity, perseverance and just enough mischief to keep things interesting. More than anything, Bruce will be remembered as a good man, steadfast, kind, honest, integrity-rooted and courageously adventurous in the way he chose to live his life. He was a visionary who could see the future and then create it.
The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Vineyards and special thanks to Dr. Bielby for being so kind in Bruce’s last months.
Bruce will be deeply missed.
